Old Scatterbrain
I realize DUHS is comprised of dozens of different agencies, but why does copyright enforcement fall under their jurisdiction?

Sparky Nelson
I realize DUHS is comprised of dozens of different agencies, but why does copyright enforcement fall under their jurisdiction? A lot of copyright and trademark infringing merchandise is imported from places like the Far East as counterfeit products. Customs and Border Protection already has responsibility for catching that kind of activity, so it kind of makes sense to let DHS handle all of it. Although the traditional way to handle a copyright infringement is to have your lawyer send a "cease and desist" letter, but I guess when you're an MLB team you get to call out the Feds. Badger Mountain Charlie SASS #43172
Yeah, I was wondering why this would not be a civil suit /case. But if it was my underwear, I would call out the feds too. My cheeks are delicate.

As mentioned, there's already a federal bureaucracy in place to deal with it. Plus, this was clearly a local violation. I thought DHS was supposed to be protecting us from terrorists? Utah Bob #35998
Customs has been heavily into enforcing these counterfeit products for some time now. They have seized tons of stuff. Knockoff items from the far east is amulti billion dollar criminal "business".

Yup, then Customs can deal with it --- but only if it turns out to be something other than a local vendor who did something dumb. I don't know why this a federal issue at the outset. What concerns me is that I see a future where parking tickets are viewed as a nat'l security issue and dealt with as such.

Copyright laws are a federal matter. I don't see why DHS gets the job, the panties were printed in KC; but I guess they don't have much else to do in Kansas City. Old Scatterbrain
I understand that the law is the law and all that, but to me this is like sending SWAT to raid the house of a guy for making Xerox copies of $100-bills for his kids to play with. Rusty Chains
I can tell ya which agency, it was the T and A.....no I mean the TSA, after all they are already into groping and feeling anyway. What's a little theft of women's underwear compared to keeping us safe from the evil terroristic and unauthorized use of corporate symbols and trademarks? Why the next thing you know they will feel the need to give weapons to the narco criminals or to ISIS! Yep, I feel so much safer now that the National Weather Service and the EPA both have their very own SWAT teams! Somehow I think the framers would be rather disappointed in some of the things we have done in the last hundred years!
Shawnee McGrutt
Homeland Secerity arrested a pervert in Portland, Maine just last week for taking photos of little boys in restroom stalls. He was also receiving child pron on his computer. (The receiving of pron on the computer is most likely what alerted them to him.). The state and local police have in the past arrested these guys. I realize that sending this stuff on the Internet is a federal offense, but wouldn't the FBI have made the arrest? Why wouldn't they just past the information on to the local authorities and let them deal with the creep? Badger, you Cardinal fans don't know what bad karma is, my poor old Red Sox have been playing golf for almost a month.

Why Homeland Security? Maybe the porn came from overseas.
