Rancho Roy
I'm going to be in Omaha NE tomorrow on business with an afternoon to kill. Gun Shops that must be visited? Vintage arms prefered. Museums that deal with 1800s period of time? Landmarks that do the same? I'm a nut about anything "Mountain Men", Cowboy, Lewis and Clark............. Help me out here....Thanks! Woodbury Bill, SASS # 9650
Guns Unlimited has a nice selection. Omaha Zoo is great. Check out the "Old Market" area. There is a train museum south of the old market area.

Hans Christian
Roy- You have several great choices. The old Union Station near the old market; http://www.durhammuseum.org/visit/info.aspx Across the river in Council Bluffs, Iowa; http://www.uprrmuseum.org/ And a few miles west on I-80 is the SAC museum; http://www.sasmuseum.com/ have fun! Tucker McNeely
There is a Lewis and Clark museum in Nebraska city. About 45 min south of Omaha on I-29. West on hwy 2 from the interstate on the south side of the road just as you cross the Missouri River bridge. Way further south is Indian Cave State Park. They have a a neat walking trail with a dugout/cave that Lewis and Clark used.
WymoreWrangler SASS 46187L
Plus one for the SAC museum, it's at exit 426 on I-80, Eugene Mahoney State Park next to it use to have a great buffet at the Lodge building, day park permit required, and an incredible view of the Platte River. The food service was privatized several years ago and we haven't eat there since the change, but the view would be worth the chance... Cabelas is at exit 442 off of I-80. and if you go east across the river into Iowa, Bass Pro is one of the first exits.. If you had more time, a trip to Fairbury, Nebraska (about 130 miles from Omaha) to Bedlan Gunshop would be nice, they have a world class Winchester collection and if you ask nice, they will show part of it to you.. And if you would head for Fairbury, the Rock Creek State Historical Park, an Oregon trail road ranch, rebuilt from an 1860's daguerreotype photo is excellent, it's the place where Hickok killed his first man McCandles... Again, a day park permit required...
Wild Bill Blackerby SASS # 34989
If you like trains then it's the Durham Museum for sure - plan on spending @ 3 hours there (seriously we were there in April and it was that good). Also this site may help you find other things to do, http://www.visitomaha.com/ Love Omaha, go to Old Market area after dark for a great evening but go a bit early to get a parking spot - also check out the First National's Spirit of Nebraska's Wilderness and Pioneer Courage Park.
