Chancy Shot, SASS #67163
In another thread about factory crimp dies, there are several mentions of a cartridge check gauge. I have done a google search and have only found check gauges for fired brass. I found nothing for an assembled cartridge. I have gone astray somewhere, so I am asking for some education and sources. Thanks in advance!! Chancy
Ned Plinkerton, SASS #41905
refer to Dillon's case gages. I use one for .45 acp, and also .32-20.
Garrison Joe, SASS #60708
Dillon has a major line of loaded cartridge gauges. There's not much need to check fired cases, except perhaps for length on rifle cartridges to see if they need trimming. But for CAS, check the loaded rounds if you want to make sure every one will chamber. Of course, you can check rounds in a revolver cylinder removed from gun, but it's not quite as accurate or convenient as checking with a minimum size loaded round gauge. http://dillon.com http://www.dillonprecision.com/ or http://www.brianenos.com/ Good luck, GJ
jrswanson1
I use a set of Wilson drop in cartridge gauges for my 10mm and .40 S&W rounds. Available at MidwayUSA, they are available for a variety of cartridges.
Chancy Shot, SASS #67163
Thanks, but that didn't work out. I should have mentioned that I am shooting 44-40. Dillon has handgun and rifle case gages, but not for 44-40. Their site showed a Wilson gage in 44-40, but that was for checking empty cases. Any other help?? Garrison Joe, SASS #60708
Yep, try the EGW gauge from several vendors, Midway, UniqTek, etc. For sure it will do a loaded round check. Good luck, GJ
Anvil Al #59168
http://www.uniquetek.com/ They support a lot of cowboy action matches. So that is where I would look first.

Jack N. Water
Yep, try the EGW gauge from several vendors, Midway, UniqTek, etc. For sure it will do a loaded round check. Good luck, GJ +1 EGW gauges are made with Clymer reamers, the same reamers used to make cylinders.
J-BAR #18287
Dillon carries the EGW Cowboy checker. It's one block that checks 4 different calibers; .357, .44-40, 44 Mag, 45 Colt. It's not shown in the online catalog, so call them. As I recall it was about $20.
