Elk Creek LeMieux Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 There's a lot of that story that isn't told in the movie.
Utah Bob #35998 Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Just a note. There is very little footage from Xray. Most of the scenes are from other battles.
Badger Mountain Charlie SASS #43172 Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 The lead-in to the video calls out Hamburger Hill. I thought the 101st fought what was described as Hamburger Hill by Hollywood. Never having been in Vietnam I have little of no knowledge of the battles. I have my own opinion about that war, but I have nothing but respect for the guys and gals that fought there. Am I correct in my assumption that XRAY AND ALBANY were two separate issues in an ongoing battle or were they two separate battles?

Am I correct in my assumption that XRAY AND ALBANY were two separate issues in an ongoing battle or were they two separate battles? I recognized some Hamburger Hill footage. That was a 101st fight. As for the rest of the footage, if you see someone in jungle fatigues, it isn't on Xray. If you see body armor, it's probably Marines. When the 2nd Bn relieved the 1st, they moved to Albany for extraction. Along the way, they ran into the 66th and 33rd NVA regts. http://www.lzxray.com/albany2.htm
Elk Creek LeMieux Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 One of the many very impressive stories out of that battle is the men that ended up alone in the fight, and managed to fight their way free of the battle and then walked out to artillery bases.
Badger Mountain Charlie SASS #43172 Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 edThanks for the update, Bob. Not to be troublesome, but why did they move to Albany? Was XRAY not secured? Or was Albany a larger LZ?
Utah Bob #35998 Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 There was a B52 strike scheduled for Chu Pong mountain. That's the area where the NVA swarmed the 1/7. The 2/5 and 2/7 needed to get out of the area. No smart bombs back in the day. 2/5 moved off toward LZ Columbus. 2/7 followed and then broke off to move to Albany.
Badger Mountain Charlie SASS #43172 Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Thank you sir, for the explanation. It clears the matter in my mind a bit more.
