How long does the barrel need to be on a Marlin before the magazine will hold 10 .38 specials?

Typically about 20 inches.

Ive had it down to 17 inches with my own follower and tapered spring.

 

All the stock length marlin rifles and carbines will hold ten. Just make sure there isnt a wooden or plastic plug that limits to less than 10

So the 18" and 18.5" length barreled Marlins will hold 10 rounds?

My wife's Marlin with 18" to frame 18.5" to chamber mouth holds 10..
