Alpo Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 I know that on ;NCIS they get results in a few hours. I'm pretty sure that's nonsense. But just supposing some young person came and knocked on my door and said, "Hi Dad", how long would it normally take to find out if he/she was really mine?
Blackcat James SASS# 29509 Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 A few days they have companies that do this DNA testing Google it.
Ruff Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 But just supposing some young person came and knocked on my door and said, "Hi Dad", how long would it normally take to find out if he/she was really mine? Are congratulations in order?
Badger Mountain Charlie SASS #43172 Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 Where have you been, Alpo? What have you done. Alpo?
Hardpan Curmudgeon SASS #8967 Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 Har! That happened to my former brother-in-law, "He Who Can Do No Wrong."
Ruff Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 Har! That happened to my former brother-in-law, "He Who Can Do No Wrong." A lot would depend on how old the person showing up at the door was. Where they involved/married at the time?
Sparky Nelson Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 In my case it was about 4 weeks, but that's because it was being handled by the court and a chain of custody had to be maintained. Further, deponent sayeth not.
Hardpan Curmudgeon SASS #8967 Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 A lot would depend on how old the person showing up at the door was. Where they involved/married at the time? Married... two kids.... and the lad knockin' on the door was 14 or 15. The missus was entirely un-amused. FWIW, his missus was a very nice and sweet young lady. FBIL ("Former Brother-In-Law") was a pill - kinda full of himself... very self-centered. Reckon it was a family trait.
Badger Mountain Charlie SASS #43172 Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 Is it Who or Whom? Doesn't matter, The price is still the same..
Branchwater Jack SASS #88854 Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 Ask Maury. The TV deal alone can bring in some extra cash
Utah Bob #35998 Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 It can be done pretty quickly. It just takes money.
Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 If it's just one or two it wouldn't be too bad, but if all of 'em show up at once............... whew! I'd have to rent a hall.
Badlands Bob #61228 Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 DNA matching and cell phone tracking are the two biggest things to help law enforcement in the last 25 years. In addition to bodily fluids you may leave behind, we routinely get DNA from things like cigarette butts, beer bottle mouths and steering wheels of cars. It's called "Touch DNA". This DNA can then be computer matched against a data base of criminals or swabs can be taken from suspects and matched. Very cool stuff and damn hard to overcome in court.

But just supposing some young person came and knocked on my door and said, "Hi Dad", how long would it normally take to find out if he/she was really mine? Does the timer start when he says "Hi Dad," or when they find the smelling salts and you come around?

Havin' bad dreams about what ya did in the 60's???
Sparky Nelson Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 Havin' bad dreams about what ya did in the 60's??? You know what they say: "If you can remember the 60s, you didn't participate."
Alpo Posted July 4, 2014 Author Posted July 4, 2014 I was in grade school in the 60s. I was a precocious feller, but not THAT precocious.
Sparky Nelson Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 I was in grade school in the 60s. I was a precocious feller, but not THAT precocious. Any kids spawned in that decade would be in their 40s or 50s by now. Paternity wouldn't mean a whole lot at this point. No, I take that back. It'd be one more kid you could sponge off of in your old age! Always look on the bright side of life.
Badger Mountain Charlie SASS #43172 Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 I suppose that the adage of "IF IT FEELS GOOD, DO IT" from the 1960 era may come home to bite. Some of those precocious young men may have conduct remorse. Naaaa, maybe not.
Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 You know what they say: "If you can remember the 60s, you didn't participate." I remember it all very well. I was defending the world against godless communism for much of it, starting a family, and doing what I thought was right or myself and my world. The 60s were my finest time and my best memories.
