Buried a friend today who was killed last Thursday in a bicycle accident. Run over from behind while riding the shoulder of the road by a driver playing with his cell phone.

He was an avid bicycle rider and we've ridden thousands of miles together over the last 15 years.

Mark was also a Lieutenant in the Navy Reserve and served three tours in the Middle East. He's now buried in the Fort Riley Kansas Veteran's Cemetery.

Taps is one of those tunes that grabs you by the heart when it's blown, but especially so when it's for someone you know.

Please join me in a toast to a good friend.

How right you are. Last Saturday, I attened a funeral and burial of a friend from my church. He was a WWII

vet and the Navy was present at the funeral. When they played taps, it reached out and touched me, and a few

others, I am sure.

Taps always gets to me especially if it is at a service. Last night I watched "ACT of VALOR" filmed with active duty SEAL TEAM. Acting was fair, team work awesome, some scenes made you hurt inside. Voices were at time hard to understand. But when it was over and they played TAPS and ran the list of Spec Ops lost since 9/11 and showed photos of all branches it hurt in away it has never hurt before. I admit I had to leave the room a couple of times. Without these young people there is no telling what language we may speak or what religion we would worship.

Thank You, Thank all of you that have served in any branch and in any capacity.

Day is done, gone the sun,

From the lake, from the hills, from the sky;

All is well, safely rest, God is nigh.

Fading light, dims the sight,

And a star gems the sky, gleaming bright.

From afar, drawing nigh, falls the night.

Thanks and praise, for our days,

'Neath the sun, 'neath the stars, neath the sky;

As we go, this we know, God is nigh.

Sun has set, shadows come,

Time has fled, Scouts must go to their beds

Always true to the promise that they made.

While the light fades from sight,

And the stars gleaming rays softly send,

To thy hands we our souls, Lord, commend.

My condolences,Deadwood. Whenever I sound TAPS,it's a feeling that reaches deep inside. As a member of Bugles Across America,it's my duty to render TAPS at no charge to families of service members and Veteran's who deserve to a have a LIVE bugler sound it. The recorded/electronic bugles just don't have the panache that a live rendering has,plus they seem to fail at the most inopportune times.I've done two funeral's for friends,including one of our SASS members(my shooting partner). I also have been rendering it for our local American Legion post for their Memorial Day rites at two of the small cemetaries here. :FlagAm:
