What the hell is wrong with people?

http://madworldnews.com/mom-violently-beaten-toddler-tries-help-bystanders-watch/

A day in the park with her 2-year old son turned into horror for both the parent and child, when a woman viciously attacked the mother as the toddler looked on, screaming for the assault to stop.

Onlookers decided to catch the horrific incident on video with their cell phones, rather than intervening to save the woman and protect the child from more trauma.

even more disturbing:

Even with the crime caught on camera, nobody took the evidence to authorities, instead opting to post it to social media.

I can almost - ALMOST - understand not wading into the thing and risk getting beaten yourself, but GOODGAWDINHEAVEN why didn't anyone call the police and THEN film it? Or why not take it to the police after it was over?

One of the problems is that in some states in this country you risk getting arrested yourself and sued if you intervene. These are the same states were you risk imprisonment if you defend yourself with a firearm outside of your home and in some cases inside your home.

We had video at the station of two 13 year olds robbing a 20-something of his iPhone. They saw him take it out, grabbed the phone, and started beating the hell out of him. Over 20 people sat there just watching during the one minute beating. All were under 30(ish). The only person to come to the victim's aid.......the 68 year old bus driver!

The LT at the station said that the crime stats on these things reveal that the under 40's will sit and watch and the over 40's tend to jump in and help. He said the stats were overwhelming.

Then when I'm in jail who defends my wife and child?

Call for help, of course. Intervene in NJ, where they jail people traveling with firearms whose planes get accidentally diverted? Not me unless it's family or friends.

Granted, I'm not in NJ, but I don't think I would think that far into it. Heck, I have some dental work from telling a guy to pick on somebody his own size after he slapped his girlfriend, and he did.

Ten years ago, yeah I would have jumped in. Heck even a year ago I would have. Last January I got in the middle of a fight at school (HS teacher). What did I get? A damaged nerve in my shoulder, three months of rehab, hours and hours of time lost sitting in doctors offices.....and ten days later the kid is back in my class with his mother breathing down my neck.

Life ain't like the movies and I've figured out that in most cases discretion is the better part of valor.

Have a cousin that thought he was pretty tough and worked as a bouncer to make extra cash. He was a pretty good sized guy and that usually was enough to get the rowdies under control. One night this couple get into a shouting match and before anyone could intervene he starts beating the crap out of her. My cousin and one of the other bouncers move in grab the guy and proceed to move him out the door in a rather forceful manner. The gal, who is covered in blood mind you, grabs a chair and smacks my cousin in the knee and then jumps on the back of the other bouncer screaming at the top of her lungs for them to stop hurting her man.

Fight didn't stop until the third bouncer and bartender pin the gal to the floor while two of the regulars restrain the guy until the cops arrive.

When it was all over my cousin had a shattered knee. Bouncer #1 had been bitten on the ear and had multiple scratches on his face and neck. Bouncer 3 had a broken nose and the bartender was pretty scratched up as well. Only two not to get hurt bad were the regulars. Made me realize that domestic issues are very dangerous and to think twice about intervening.

I would have dialed 911, solicited some help, and then stepped in.

I agree to a large extent. I should say that in my case, the girl was a co-worker and a group of us were out, although I didn't know her boyfriend from Adam. I had no plans of jumping in between them, didn't put hands on or anything else. He just turned and swung before I could do anything (my fault-should have been ready). He hit me hard, I hit floor, kicked him in groin. Figured if I got up, he might hit me that hard again.

This is why I carry. Especially when I have my family with me... I stay out of fights and arguments....but...doesn't mean they will.

Sad that the only one defending this women was her 2- year old boy.

One thing that has amazed me for years is the increasing tendency of women to get involved in fights. Pretty much unheard of when I was young. I don't know if it's a result of our continuing slide toward savagery or an unintended result of women's equality or drugs or what. Sad to say that the ladies are becoming more like men in this instance.

I have always believed in the principle of men not hitting women, but it is getting to the point that you may not have much choice in the matter. Alot of women are very willing to stand toe to toe with a man, regardless of respective sizes, and they are not likely to settle for a slap across the face.

And, quite frankly, alot of women ain't quite as petite as they once might have been. I have met or seen more than one chick I'd rather not tangle with.

My motto, never get between two "women" who are fighting. They are worse then guys.

But back to the original post, I can't believe people didn't call the police. Why video it and not let the law see it?

Unfortunately it's NJ too. Google Greg Revella. Here's a quick blurb about an NRA ILA bulletin:

The NRA Institute for Legislative Action (ILA) has issued a special advisory for New York and New Jersey airports. According to NRA, authorities at JFK, La Guardia, Newark and Albany airports have been known to enforce state and local firearms laws against airline travelers who are merely passing through the jurisdiction, despite federal law that protects travelers. NRA ILA states that in some cases, even persons traveling in full compliance with federal law have been arrested or threatened with arrest. As of this writing, litigation on this issue is ongoing.

Having lived in a dozen states or so, and traveled through most of the rest of them I'm very conscious of the disparities that exist between states. NJ, NY, CA and MA are not states I will voluntarily carry in, travel through, or do business with if I can avoid it. This is not meant to reflect upon our good pards who reside in those states, nor am I 'insulting' those states. They just seem to me to have screwy laws and even screwier politicians.

I was always raised to never hit a lady. If a female starts an altercation and physically attacks me, it becomes a rebuttable presumption that she is not a lady.

Chances are, if she is coming after me and her friends and family are around, I'm probably trying to make a hasty exit anyway.

I can't speak for the others, but the laws regarding carry in MA are not "screwy". If you do not have a MA Class A concealed carry permit, you cannot carry. Period. MA does not recognize any out of state permits. Period. If you are travelling from out of state with legal firearms, lock them in a case and put them in the trunk, separate from ammo. Period. I have never heard of anyone being arrested in MA for properly transporting firearms in this manner. Carry illegally, and it's an automatic one year in prison. Simple. As for not doing business here, that's your choice; but unless your business involves illegal guns, you have nothing to fear.

I understand that we all would like to carry legally across all state lines. But until the Congress decides to adopt some uniform standards and laws, that cannot happen.

In far too much of the African American culture, it's not considered wrong to rob or beat a Caucasian. In that culture, the Caucasian deserved it and there's nothing really wrong with it.

In Arizona, if you are not a prohibited posseser, you can carry. Peroid. Concealed or open. Period.

Not recognizing other states CCW is screwy.

Having to carry a gun in the trunk, seperate from ammo is screwy.

Not being able to avail yourself of the protection that the Second Ammendment affords us without a Ma Class A CCW, (what ever that is), is screwy.

I was stationed in Ma. for two and a half long years.

Pilgrim anti gun laws are screwy.

I still perform in places that serve alcohol, (otherwise known as "ignorant oil" or "stupid juice"). Many years ago, when I was younger and much more fit and hardened, a woman accosted me in a bar. I tried to avoid the confrontation because I'd been raised to respect and protect women. When she became physical I stepped back and she continued to pummel me. To this point I'd only parried her blows, but when she hit me with a beer mug, I didn't hesitate to knock her out cold!

I instantly felt remorseful and really badly upset! The bartender came around the bar and stared down at the woman who was beginning to regain consciousness. "She's done another guy like that in here, and I thought it was her boyfriend," he said, "I guess this time she'll learn something about starting trouble."

The woman was helped up and escorted from the bar. "If she can hit like a man, she can get hit like a man," the bartender concluded. It didn't make me feel any better but I did learn something about controlling myself. I still sometimes regret doing it, but in today's world I'm not so sure I wouldn't do it again in a similar situation.

You are very fortunate; few states recognize all other states' permits. Sorry if you feel it is "screwy" not to do so, but my point was that it is clear and understandable - not necessarily what you want it to be, but clear and understandable. The OP seemed to be suggesting that the law was confusing, when it is fairly straightforward.

And the Pilgrims have nothing to do with it; our restrictive gun laws are the product of a Democrat dominated legislature and politicians pandering to scared suburban soccer moms. Period.

Hey LL.

As I said, I meant no offense to anyone by my characterization. Screwy may be a matter of perspective? From the perspective of someone living in a state where you can carry openly without a permit, (though nobody does), carry in your car without a permit, and get a permit that is good in your state and every other surrounding state except NC, MA laws are screwy, clear, but screwy.

Nobody except residents have the right to carry for self defense in MA AND only those residents the government approves of. That's pretty clear.......ly screwy.

What if I'm traveling through and in possession of a couple of 30 round magazines, not guns mind you, just magazines? Isn't it true I could be subject to arrest if I can't prove they were manufactured prior to 1994? I just looked at the statute on the MA legislature website. The magazine alone, no guns, no ammo will get you 2.5 years in jail.

MA considers denying the right to own a firearm to anyone who has been arrested, NOT necessarily convicted. http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/370251/massachusetts-considers-denying-constitutional-rights-innocent-arrestees-charles-c-w
