What was your favorite candy growing up and what era?

I had a reply all typed up and got distracted and lost it.

As a kid, Cherry Mash, the factory is close to the Stetson factory, so I once even picked up a big box of them when I got mom to take me to the Stetson factory when we were back there visiting family. Would have been late 60s early 70s I'd guess.

I'm sure I had others, mostly anything chocolate I imagine.

As far as I know, they are still making Charry Mash in St. Joseph, MO.

One of those treats that I pick up whenever I get up to see family up that way.

I tend to like the mini ones better, but the big ones are good, too.

And Idle Isle nougat nut balls... since the late forties until now. They're made in a little shop in Brigham City, UT and I still buy a couple of five pound boxes every time I go up there.

Me too!!!! Nothing like thinking about candy to make your mind drift away......

As a youngster in Bucks County, PA, we bought all our "special" candy at:

http://www.stutzcandy.com/

Great block chocolate (milk, dark and white); caramel, pecan and milk chocolate clusters; every kind of nut buried in every kind of chocolate; it's no wonder I grew up carrying some extra displacement....

And they had a petting zoo out back, too!

PS: Memory just stirred: If you are from the Buffalo area...you may know about sponge candy......ummmmmmmm.

Cherry Mash is beyond me. I have some difficulty with textures of my food and Cherry Mash pushes all of my buttons. I not only can't eat it, I can't watch somebody else eat it. Same, same chocolate covered cherrys.

cherry mash has changed big time over the years, now I don't much care for it, way too sweet.

Chocolate covered cherries are just disgusting. Taking two excellent foods and ruining them. Why?

Kinda like chocolate covered bacon, which apparently is the latest thing. Sounds like a crime against humanity to me.

Bit O' Honey...And the candy too! LOL

Also, Almond Joy, Salt water taffy...Grape flavoured preferred.

That was up until now...I remember in maybe like 1979-1980 I loved Gator-gum...basically supposed to be Gatorade in a gum.

Hershey Bar w/Almonds, Mallo Cups, and anything made a Lititz Chocolate. 1970's. What can I say, I'm from PA.

sounds so good :) as I got older and could choose my own candy, Baby Ruth was a favorite and Mounds--still are on a rare occasion.

In Calif. we have See's Candies, and Mom began giving her swim students their sugar sticks in the 60s --6 fruit colored & flavored candy canes...a tradition I carried on until they quit making them in '07. See's always gives you a free chocolate when you buy something and that changed my world! now it's a little dark chocolate for me everyday.

The liquid center ones, yeah. But ripe cherries dipped in dark chocolate, or chocolate covered dried cherries, are great.

Mom always wanted a 5th Avenue when we rode our bikes to the liquor store. Dad a Reeses cup.

I buy these fab premium chocolate bars 3.5 oz made in France-- Falize at the 99 cent store! :o SHOCKING

...which sell in stores for $4. They make a dark choc with teeny bits of sea salt that is really good; also dark mint, plain 74%, and milk choc.

it's nice for baking, too. Used to win the 10lb block of Ghirardelli in baking contests, or buy the Valrhona block, but that's when it was $20. now they are $60.

The dark chocolate combinations they have now are hard to resist. Mrs. Lose gets one that has dried fruit in it and man is that good.
