I just got a email from Misty Moonshine  She said as of next month there will be no more paper CC. They only had 800 sign up for this. They needed 5000 to break even. I told them to apply my refund to the SASS scholarship fund.

I won't miss the paper version, but I gotta say that donating your subscription fee like that is a real stand-up thing to do. :)

That's the cowboy way. Good for you!!!

The biggest regret I have over loosing the hard copy is the ability to hand them out to potential shooters.

What I can hardly believe is that of the what, 25k-30k people getting a paper CC every month, there aren't 5k that wanted to keep getting one?

Only 800, really?

Pretty sad.

Sometimes I wastoo embarrassed to give them to new shooters. Too much controversy what with the editorial and letters to the editor. I have even gone so far as to cut them out before giving them to prospective shooters.

I would have loved to had received a paper copy but I wasn't seeing mine until the middle of the month. I complained to the post office about this issue and was told that I would get it when I get it. Right before we had the option of paying for it, my last copy came to me with maple syrup on the back of it. I had enough and I'm glad it went digital.

Howdy,

Too bad there wont be any paper CC to hand out at gunshows.

No other magazine or newspaper seems to be in this situation.

Maybe others are doing their accounting differently?

I don't need to get jumped on here so I will leave it at that.

Hmmm...gives me an idea....download the CC to a thumbdrive and stick it my wallet, to give to a new shooter.

And, in other news, Disney announced today that they will no longer release any of their movies on VHS. This shocking move comes as the filmmaker was the last to drop commercial release in the Betamax format.

LMAO! Spot on...

Could always print a few to hand out yourself. Them newfangled puter printers seem to do a Purdy good job.

OhOh. I suppose that means no more RCA video discs or Pioneer Laser disks as well. Heck, I can't even find any blank tape cassettes anymore. Will probably have to buy a new car with a CD.

Better act quick. CD's are becoming obsolete now that most new cars have bluetooth capability and can play music directly off of your MP3 player / iPod / iPhone / Android device.

Good luck. I tried finding a new car with an 8-track or a cassete deck in it.

No dice there, either.

Seriously, though...

When I moved to this town, 19 years ago, it had two daily papers. One in the morning, one in the afternoon. The same for Birmingham.

Now, neither has a daily paper any more. Nope. Not one.

The times... They are a changin'.

If you want to pass the paper to some one else, it's easy to give them the web site

Anyone can read the Chronicle on the web. You don't have to be a member to read it from the SASS web site.

and if you want to read it in the outhouse use a lap top.

I was one of the 800. I must say that I will likely seldom read the the Chronicle anymore. Call me a troglodyte if you wish, but I simply find the paper format easier, and more convenient. If finances don't change and I don't start shooting some CAS, my membership may lapse as well. It was a challenge coming up with the yearly cost, let alone the cost of the Chronicle, but I did so, because it was worth it to me for some strange reason as a way to "stay connected."

Oh well, many of you are right. Times do change. Progress marches on, and good things don't last forever.

I was going to spend the $35 toward the paper version - but I like the digital version MUCH better....SASS did good IMHO.

When I called in to pay my cc money, I asked if they thought there would be enough to do it. They said at that time that the response was

so good that they did not think there would be a problem at all. I will greatly miss the paper copy and will likely not read it on line.

I am thinking if I was an advertiser I would pull my add as well. I wonder how many will actually read it on line to justify the cost of the

adds. ??????

Doesn't surprise me at all. Who wants to pay more. The other 4200 will just simply hand in their pink slip. I know at least 6 members in my club including my wife that will not renew their memberships.

Too bad a simple newspaper trumps the people you have met and shoot with....

How pathetic...all over a paper...

Sorry...I know it's your choice...and your values are your values, but of all the things I get from CAS and SASS sanctioning of the game...I don't think I could ever value a paper as much as you seem to.

Cheers!

Just under $3.00 per month, less than 1 gallon of gas or a fast food meal or a 1/2 a box of AA's, if it's economics, things are really bad.

I'd rather have a CC than a McBurger.

From what I understand everything & everyone was fine with the idea back when the CC increased pages & was increased to monthly.

(with no announcements or warnings that it was getting bigger or coming more often.)

Can anyone imagine the hue & cry if they cut back in the same fashion?

This is about as bad as the worker who gets a bonus for a few years in good times & then gripes when times are tough & he doesn't get a bonus

He came to expect it, maybe even to rely on it, rather than appreciate it for what it was, something extra.

Maybe if it went back to 6 or 4 issues a year it would have worked? Then again, if it came to that, maybe 12 digital would be better than 4 or 6 paper copies?

I guess we'll all find out as we go on-line only.

Sorry, but that's downright sad. The CC is was the absolute LEAST of what I get from being a member.
