Calamity Kris
While I'm not at all trying to minimize the tragedy of this, chlorine is once again introduced into the gene pool. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2014/05/15/south-carolina-man-dies-trying-out-bulletproof-vest-report-says/?intcmp=latestnews

Charlie Harley, #14153
Tragedy is when a parent is hit by a drunk driver and killed, leaving a spouse and kids alone to go forward. This is stupid and sad, but does not meet my tragedy threshold.
Charles B. Gatewood SASS #48517
There's a video on You Tube of some idiots doing this very thing. I complained to the site and asked them to ban these types of videos. No response was sent and I wasn't surprised. CBG

Waimea
Definition of Gun Control - Being able to hit what you're shooting at. Girl did not posess the necessary gun control. In this case (a phrase I abhor) "common sense gun control" should have been applied liberally. I'm also a big fan of "Risk vs Reward". The risk is obvious. What is the reward in this? Capt. R. Hugh Kidnme
So, the government is wasting time and trying to legislate gun control/gun safety (violate 2nd Amendment rights), while the core of the issue is that you can't legislate stupidity. This is living (or dead) proof. CBO

This is stupid and sad, but does not meet my tragedy threshold. I'll go one farther and say it's not sad either. My money says the world is almost certainly a little bit better place without him. J-BAR #18287
Perhaps if gun safety and marksmanship were taught in schools, like drivers ed. and not taking candy from strangers and how to swim, stuff like this would be less likely to happen. But somehow I doubt that incidents like these will be seen as justification for teaching young folks about firearm safety. Just let 'em learn about guns from movies and TV. Charlie Harley, #14153
When Richard Davis, the founder of "Second Chance" vests started his company, he would demonstrate his product by shooting his vest while wearing it. I remember the demonstration he used to do. He'd shoot himself in the vest and then get up and clean a row of bowling pins with the remainder of the magazine. Definitely a way to show confidence in your product! The demonstrations gave birth to the "Second Chance" matches. I get the impression that the "shooter" missed the vest the guy was wearing. Old Scatterbrain
The girl tried to take the blame because the actual shooter is a felon. http://www.foxcarolina.com/story/25534048/jail-officials-say-2nd-arrest-made-in-bulletproof-vest-fatal-shooting Deputies said during an interview Thursday, Kelly admitted she did not tell the truth during her original statement and additional evidence confirmed her story, implicating Fisher. Deputies said Kelly's involuntary manslaughter charge was removed, but she was charged with accessory after the fact to a felony. According to arrest warrants, Fisher shot Wardell and Kelly helped him knowing he was a felon to "avoid the consequences of his crime" by telling deputies she shot Wardell.
