Subdeacon Joe
Do you know the names of your State Senator and member of the Assembly? Write to them. Call them. Talk to your friends, get them to do the same. If you see an anti-civil rights editorial or letter to the editor in your local paper write a letter countering it. If your paper has an online version, watch for anti-civil rights stories, letters, editorials, etc. Comment in the online comments. Correct people - not "gun rights" but "civil rights." Not "anti-gun" but "anti-civil rights." Fight the lies with facts. The antis never present the whole equation. All they ever do is chant about the total deaths, but never dare to present how many crimes, and presumably lives, are saved by armed honest citizens. Point it out. Often. Have a selection of news stories that you can post links for showing people using "assault rifles" to defend themselves. Stories about young teens using a gun to drive off a home invasion. What was it, two years ago? an 18 year old widow and mother of an infants used a gun to stop two guys who broke into her place, they said looking for drugs that might have been left over from her husbands fight with cancer. Happened in Oklahoma. Push the idea that the politicians and their supporters who favor more restrictions on honest citizens are actually saying that those people would be better off dead than able to defend themselves. Here in CA our biggest problem is the apathy of gun owners. There are around 8,000,000 of us, but most just throw up their hands and whine, "What's the use? I'm just one person." That is exactly what the antis are counting on. Link to comment
