Paden
Howdy, I cast .454's and .429's with molds from NEI. What round ball mold should I use for my 60 Army C&B guns? Thanks, Paden
Springfield Slim SASS #24733
Piettas will work with .451, and .454 will work also but be more effort to seat. Most Ubertis prefer .454. In my experience.
J-BAR #18287
I have ROAs as well as 1860s. While the book calls for .454 in the 1860s, the .457s I cast for my ROAs work fine too. I'm thinking .429 would probably not shave a ring when seated, and/or might allow ball drift from recoil.
Larsen E. Pettifogger, SASS #32933
.429 would fall right to the bottom of the cylinder. .454s are a good compromise for pretty much all the .44 C&Bs.
Paden
Thanks but I was looking for LEE, RCBS, etc. Where would you recommend I order the mold? Paden
Noz
Big Lube has a 6 hole 454 mold. Works pretty good.
Garrison Joe, SASS #60708
Track of the Wolf carries lots of RB molds: Lee: http://www.trackofthewolf.com/List/Item.aspx/1202/2 Lyman: http://www.trackofthewolf.com/List/Item.aspx/1203/1 (the .454 are back ordered) Buffalo Arms has the .454 Lyman 2 cavity mold in stock: http://www.buffaloarms.com/round_ball_lyman_bullet_moulds_pr-4154.aspx Good luck, GJ
Willy B.SASS#26902
I bought a 6 cavity lee mold from Track of the Wolf, It seems to cast pretty good .454 bullets that I use in my Uberti 1860 armies and 1851 Piettas, I haven't used them yet in my Remington New Armies but there's no reason they shouldn't work in those too. http://www.trackofthewolf.com Willy B'
Long Johns Wolf
Belgian Centaures prefer .451 dia balls. Long Johns Wolf
Snake Marquez
The problem I have shooting at 5 Dogs is the knock down targets. I switched to 200 Grain Conical and not only found it was knocking em down, but by dropping them in Cylinder point down, it was much easier to use the Rammer! After all you are distorting the Ball when you squish it in too. Just a suggestion...
