Deuce Stevens SASS#55996 Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Some recent threads and topics have gotten me thinking a bit. The internet is great (duh I'm posting this on the internet) and a wonderful tool to promote SASS and CAS. But it's miles away from the "meat" of the sport. The folks who's names you will never know. The match directors that give weeks of their vacation time to make a match better for everyone. The wife of a match director that stays up will 2 in the morning after a long day of work and tending to the kids only to have to round out her day by making posse lists. The guy that nobody sees at the range on Thursday with a weed whip cleaning up the range so we can find our brass. Those that roll out of bed a hour earlier than everyone else to open the club house and make coffee and get registration going. The guy with a welder that put together a bunch of targets for free to get a club going. The poor soul who shovels and snow blows in the dead of winter so we can shoot five stages and for a second forget how much the weather stinks. And any other job that must get done that makes a match work that folks never even think about. It takes time and energy and $$$ folks, gobs and gobs of it. I know you read the wire everyday but never post. But thanks for all you do to keep this machine running. I don't believe in martyrs in sports/hobbies like this. Folks do what they want and feel is needed in the moment. I'm just very glad that they exist. If you haven't done so next time your at a match seek out a match official or officer and instead of telling them what they did wrong tell them what they did right and thank them.
Widder, SASS #59054 Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Your on the money Deuce. Good post. And look at all the effort put in by the more experienced shooters who hold classes (mostly free classes) just to help others become better shooters and have a better understanding of our game/sport. SALUTE to all of them. ..........Widder
Capt. R. Hugh Kidnme Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Duece, Right on target, Sir. Many thanks to those who are committed and dedicated to their sports, and toil without any exposure or recognition. Let's all remember to say THANKS CBO

Allie Mo, SASS No. 25217 Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Bravo again Deuce! It is so nice to see a positive thread too. Thank you for that! You always seem to say the right thing at the right time. I just got back from the CA state match at 5 Dogs. Those folks did a great job and I let them know it. I hope they never feel it is too much work. I agree it is important to thank folks for a job well done and I will try to remember to thank folks who put on annual matches from now on. Regards, Allie Mo
Peach Tree Kid Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Your right, thanks everyone for providing me with weekend fun. Because of you I am less active at work thinking about Sass, less active at work getting on the Wire, gone every time I get a chance to go see all my new cowboy and cowgirl friends, get a chance to smell a little powder. Thanks everyone from the start of this Game to today that allows me participate in this wonderful game we call Cowboy Action Shooting!
Grizzly Dave Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Well said Deuce! There are a lot of folks who work their butts off behind the scenes, some of whom don't even wind up shooting as they are worn out or busy attending to other tasks. I appreciate them greatly, and do my best to thank them as often as possible, though I know I fall short on that.
Straight Arrow Hombre Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Good post Deuce and thank you to everyone that keeps the cart on its wheels.
