McCandless
I found a dozen jars of Goex Pinnacle 3F at a ridiculously cheap price, and they followed me home. The label reads 'developed jointly by Goex and American Pioneer". Is there much of a difference between Pinnacle and American Pioneer powders? I'll look up on the Internet for instructions, but I assume like American Pioneer, you can use smokeless lubed bullets? Any of y'all still using this powder? Goody, SASS #26190
I really liked the Pinnacle, sad that it was DC'd. It meters very well in my Dillon, is more powerful than APP and less than 777. It works just fine with hard lubes, and cleans like any of the subs. It is my understanding that it and the APP "Shockey's Gold" were the same product, different package. If your scared of it I will happily pay to ship it to my door.

Yusta B.
Good stuff ! All that I have used for 5 years. Made by APP but better than their "old" formula. Clumps in the bottle from sitting around. Just shake it hard & dump out whatever granules are in it thru a small funnel to separate any chunks & repeat. Once it is broken up it seems to stay that way. Capt. George Baylor SASS#24287L
Sounds like you got a deal. APP has made improvements in its powder along the way, but for our main match cartridge and shotgun purposes the differences between it an black bottle APP aren't significant. John Boy
Is there much of a difference between Pinnacle and American Pioneer powders? Pinnicle and APP are both mainly “raw” ascorbic acid based powders that are not overly hygroscopic after the containers have been opened. Since they both are ascorbic acid based, if one unscrews the lid - puts their nose in the container and there is no sharp 'apple' smell like vitamin C tablets, it is degraded ... garden fertilizer
Kiowa Kid, SASS #69870L
The Goex pinnacle for some odd reason after it was discontinued (which if memory serves was made by APP for Goex), seems to look the same as the Newer APP in the black bottle with blue lable, as matter as fact I have shockley gold and I'm getting rid of it, it is some dusty stuff, the new APP which I will get is less dusty and dark in color just like the Goex pinnacle. Thank you for mentioning the clumping factor. I bought a case of it from Powder Inc when they had it on a special. I went to use a bottle about a week ago and it was sort of one big clump. I shook repeatedly and got it back to powder form but wondered as I loaded up shells if it was going to go bang or not. Hope it works ok.

John Barleycorn, SASS #76982
I got two cases of Goex Pinnacle opened the box and it said on the paper inside made by American Pioneer Powder. Same stuff, different label. Little cheaper too.
Rex M Rugers #6621
About clumping in loaded ammo , doesn't someone make solid pellets for loading in muzzleloader. Maybe 30-50 grain size to drop down barrel. If it did clump a bit , probably wouldn't matter ,once the primer fire hit it. Maybe I'm off base here , someone with broader knowledge might chime in. Just wonderen' , Rex

Yusta B.
APP also makes compressed "sticks" for muzzle loaders.
Capt. George Baylor SASS#24287L
The clumping problem is in the bottle, not in the cartridge. If you break it up, and it flows through the powder drop, no problem. If you leave small clumps, they will block the powder drop and result in undercharges or no charges. I have not found clumping in black bottle APP 3F. (I don't use 2F) It doesn't generally stay in storage very long, but I just used up the last white bottle of APP (running out of powder, so I used it), and it hadn't clumped. I think they went to black bottles in 2011-12. Occasionally I use up old ammunition. 8 year old APP rounds worked just like new ones.
