Cold Steel makes some real nice ones fairly reasonable and very strong. FK MD out of Italy also makes some very nice military style throwers.

I agree with Poet Jones. The ones that I have are designed for throwing they are the Cold Steel Sure Balance thrower. They are fairly cheap on MidwayUSA.

For all practical purposes, as those purposes relate to CAS/SASS and your idea of a "real knife," there are no good, real throwing knives.

If you practice throwing a certain knife, hatchet, etc., you can make it stick much of the time, but you'll find you must adopt a certain posture or technique to do so. Therefore, it might not be practical to invest the time. Also, throwing knives and axes is pretty hard on those items. You can break the knife pretty easily throwing it, especially throwing it repeatedly. Throwing knives are specificaly designed for the purpose and they don't much look like what I consider a "regular" knife.

A friend of mine who teaches stage combat at a big university and has been a weapons stunt coordinator for a number of movies told me to buy this model of Rough Rider throwing knife. I have 3 and they are great throwing knives and very cheap.

You can use a throwing knife to make up for a miss on the pistol targets, right? Not sure how it works, but I think you just pull it out and threaten to mess up the target by sticking it in there, and the RO just gives you credit for the hit.

LOL! If only. Maybe suggest it to the Wild Bunch next Convention?

Actually, just about any piece of sharp, pointy steel can be used to negate misses...but the threat works best when directed toward the spotters rather than the targets.

Even a sharp stick will work almost as well...but demeanor and verbiage need be chosen very carefully to avoid a MDQ for "belligerent attitude/interpersonal conflict".

Throwing any objects (pointy or not) at other members of the posse is definitely frowned upon.

Howdy,

I see two or three real good choices and its only been a couple days.

I didn't ask this lightly. Ive carried a knife of one kind or another most of my life.

And Im a member of the Badger Knife Club.

You sure gave me a lot to think about.

Short and sweet, I like that.

And I have seen a Cold Steel or two worth trying.

I remember when I first read about End of Trail in an American Rifleman. I'm pretty sure they had all sorts of Old games like hatchet throwing. Are those sorts of crazy matches still around? Is that why he's looking for a throwing knife?

If they are, what about the one where you split your bullet on an axe blade and try to hit 2 targets at once?

I carry one of these. A lot more utilitarian.

Watch it until the end for the throwing demonstration.
