Rooster Ron Wayne Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 I am Watching the movie Silverado tonight on Netflix . Great Movie . I have not seen it in a few years . I think it is the best opining in the first 1 Minute of any Western movie I have ever seen. But in some of the scene's in the movie . You can seen a Kings Patent Loading Gate on the Henry 1860 that Danny Glover is using . Just was wondering what have you seen out of place in the Movies of the Wild wild west ?
Harvey Mushman Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Good movie, Silverado. This will br an exhasuting thread as most of Hollywood wasn't concerned with period firearms accuracy. things seem to be getting much better in the last 10 years, but we shall see........
Foothills Drifter Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Howdy...... Great movie. If you don't like the guns, send an email to the producers and let them know. Vern / Foothills Drifter...

I'm going to say this again; Mal never said that HIS rifle was a Henry. The times he was talking about the Henry rifle, it was his Father's rifle. My personal thought is that he removed the fore end because Mal wanted his rifle to be more like his Father's, even though it was a '66.
Calvin N. Hobbes, 17218 Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Well, it's not like there never was one. Henry with SN 13001-EXP. An experimental Henry with "King's Patent 1866" on barrel.
Charlie Whiskers Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 You mean small firearm errors like: Just coming home from the Civil War with a 73 SAA and a 92 Winchester. Or Kevin Costner in Open Range getting 10 rounds out of ONE SAA?...Nah...Hollyweird doesn't make mistakes, he just reloads really fast.
Alpo Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 I just watched the beginning of it, had had a profound thought. Three people attacked him. The pinto stayed, but the other two horses runned off. As they are riding through the opening credits, you see that the pinto has a rifle in a scabbard on its saddle. If he had no problem with taking a horse, saddle and rifle belonging to the three dead bad guys, logic says he woulda took their money and their other guns, also. Leastways I sure woulda. You either "don't rob the dead", in which case you strip the saddle and let the pinto go free, or you take what the murderin' corpses no longer need. I can understand why he did not take their clothes, so he had no spare clothing for Kevin Kline. But he shoulda been able to arm him. Shoulda been at least two spare pistols and a shotgun.
Yellowhouse Sam # 25171 Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 I never knew the .44 Henry flat generated that much recoil!
Colorado Coffinmaker Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 There were 7 "known" Henry rifles made with "King's Patent" loading gates. Winchester was not above selling their prototypes. That's why there are 7 prototypes out there today. All 7 were a little bit different. Coffinmaker

LOL Good point . I would have taken guns , holsters and money at least .
Alpo Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Heck, even Jimmy Stewart did it. In Winchester '73, after the Indian attack, he told the cavalry sergeant to go pick up the dead Indians' guns.
Cold Lake Kid, SASS # 51474 Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 Cheer up boys, at least they're trying to be a little correct. They weren't using '94 Winchesters! LOL
Gunner Gatlin, SASS 10274L Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 Enjoy it for what it is - a great western with lotsa fun built in. Yes, as has already been pointed out aome late 1860's did have the Kings Patent loading gate before the 1866 Model. GG ~
Big Jake1001 Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Little John's Auctions in Orange county Calif sells and auctions off tons of guns. I was in there a couple of years ago when they had about 7-8 Henry rifles going across the block. Most were Military marked and 1 was a Kings Pat. with a loading gate. I held most of these in my hands and looked at them very closely. I also saw a NEW in the BOX, 18 inch barreled rifle that had the volcanic ring and trigger guard on it. Henry's were estimated at $35,000.00- $70,000.00 and the Volcanic was $180,000.00- $200,000.00. I remember in 1973, you could buy a Henry for about $3,000.00. Big Jake
Uno Mas SASS #80082 Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 I've been told that Danny Glover couldn't do the "Henry Hop" to clear the magazine follower tab as he ripped off shots. They took the forestock off a Spaghetti Winchester '66 for him. The man who played his Father got a real Henry. Great Movie. Lots of great quotes: Cobb: We're gonna give you a fair trial, followed by a first class hanging.

Yes, as has already been pointed out aome late 1860's did have the Kings Patent loading gate before the 1866 Model. GG ~ That's where I am. I can overlook some inaccuracy for a good story, well performed. I get more frustrated when I see horribly inaccurate action. "You used to ride with that guy?" "Today, my jurisdiction ends here. Pick up my hat."

Chili Ron Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Howdy, High school classmate Richard Jenkins plays the bar manager who gits shot. Check out his movie history on the web, if you have a minute. He has been in a ton of movies yet he can walk anywhere and isn't bothered. He was a lot of fun at class reunions, too. Its hard to name a big movie star that he hasn't worked with. Best CR
