Grouchy Greg, SASS#71981
Is it watercress ? Used to pick it from clear streams in SW Missouri. +1 for fried okra, fresh, not the frozen stuff. CBG "Creeses" are wild field cress, different from wild watercress. Field cress is found growing in places like cut-over corn fields or soybean fields, clearings where timber has been cut, either clear-cut or selective cut and vacant lots and raggedy lawns allowed to go to seed. You need to pick them before they sprout stalks and blossoms, usually between January and March, or they'll be too bitter to eat. You clean and cook them the same way you would turnip greens or collards. Add a touch of vinegar and they are big-time tasty! http://arlingwords.files.wordpress.com/2011/09/dscn0873.jpg
