Ladies, How Do You Get Men To Listen To You {Small Rant}

OMG!! I just got off the phone with XXXXXXXX. The store manager shoved me off to the gun dept. manager. Even the gun dept manager did his best to sell me a Sig. “I’m a former cop so I would have this if my life depended on it……..” {They don’t have any Shields.} I told him guns are kind of like cars. Everyone has one they really like, rational thought process or not. I really wanted the M&P or Ruger. He gave me a curt “yes maam” and shut up. It didn’t sound like they were going to give me any breaks on price either. I think I’ll shop Gun Genie. Anything has to be better than this mess.

CK...just go to another "toy store"....it's obvious they don't want your business...it's THEIR loss.

 

I know this doesn't fit your situation exactly but it sure describes what you ought to do..

Go to another store........Buy your gun of choice there....

 

Copy the receipt and send it and a letter to the corporate office of the first store explaining what happened.....

The "Readers Digest" of yesterdays events are as follows:

 

I arrived at the gun counter where the gun manager was paged. He arrived, shook my hand and introduced me to his top sales person. The manager said a few words then disappeared....... This gentleman was polite, friendly and LISTENED. He showed me the Ruger and the M&P. After my DROS was completed and I was being escorted from the store with my purchase, he asked me why I chose that particular gun. I explained that I went to three different ranges at three different times and I tried everything I thought I would be interested in. My favorite of ease to handle and use was that one. He looked kind of surprised and said, "well, that's the best way to choose a new gun". I wanted to make a smart remark but I thought better of it. I jumped in my car and, literally, drove off into the sunset. After handling both the M&P 9 and the Ruger SR9, I brought home a brand new shiny M&P 9 with 2 17 round mags and an integrated Crimson Trace.

 

I will be writing a letter to the corporate offices explaining my disappointment with them. I doubt it will do any good but they do need to realize they are offending a growing portion of the gun purchasing populace. The gentleman who assisted with my purchase told me the store and company could use more women behind the gun counter. His concern is they wouldn't be taken seriously by the men on the other side of the counter. I think that trend is changing. We'll have to see.

 

P.S. I purchased the gun from this outfit because they were pretty much the only game in town. No one else that I was able to find had one.

Last time I took my sweetie out gun shopping, the clerk asked what I was looking for.

I pointed at her and told him"Talk to her, she's the one looking"

So he asked her what she was looking for..........."Umm I 'm looking for a, ah, I'm looking for......"

She turned to me, "What am I looking for?"

 

All I could say is "You should see her looking for shoes" :P

I have an M&P 9C with 2-12 round mags. Great gun!! You made an excellent choice.(IMHO) Congrats on overcoming the Neanderthals in the gun shops!! :lol: Rye

Glad it worked out for you. Paging Gun Manager? That's a thought. Manager was smart and figured out he had an actual serious buyer. He probably selected his most gentle salesman and told him to sell you whatever you wanted. Wise, and something the other store salesperson should do anyway.

 

I find some entertainment hanging around gun counters and overhearing the conversation between customer and gun salesman. Unbelievable what limited knowledge most salesman have,,,, well, they don't get paid much as retail people know and perhaps they just transferred from the fishing tackle department just yesterday. Yes, there are some gun salesman that are knowledgeable but perhaps more in the hunting firearm or AR platform application. I can sympathize with the gun sales people because they have chosen a job where they have to deal with a high percentile of looky-lewers and constantly have a firearm pointed at their chest by the customer all day long. On the counter point, it is unbelievable that most customers usually doesn't know what they want for a firearm/caliber/ assessory either.

 

It sounds that through the process you figured it out.

 

BTW, your selection is wonderful but the 17rd magazine/gun combo indicate to me that the firearm is more of a house/car gun and not so much a CCW gun. Perhaps that was you real goal and desire in the firearm You perhaps will be back to that store and to that salesperson for another gun more suitable for Concealed carry on your person,,,, or not.

 

Perhaps a more knowledgeable person on the wire can chime in to tell all of us what the profit margin on a $500 firearm is... 20%??? Which means the other stores perhaps lost a $100 sale. Still, a $100 sale is a $100 sale

 

As mentioned above, the customer is always right and sell them whatever they want, even though it may not be what they have indicated they need. Like a fu-fu colored semi in micro caliber that cost less than $200 for bear hunting.

I worked with a lady that had to take a survey of everyone's advice and option on about every decision she had to make. Once she gathered all the advice and opinions, she'd make rounds again until she argued out a group consensus I got tired of the game that could last for days. I'd reply, "It's your life, screw it up if you want to." She'd get a confused look on her face and move on. About the third time I made that reply, she squared off on me - asking me what I ment, was she screwing up her life? I said, no, you're entitled to make your own decisions and it didn't matter what other people think. She still felt it was a necessary process so as to not make a mistake.

I was at a gun show last Saturday...

Stopped by a booth that had a lot of loaded ammo bagged up...

 

Lady walked up with a little chromed derringer.. (I figured she'd bought it for concealed carry)

Overheard the conversation...

 

She asked the young man behind the counter about a bag of 38 special bullets.. 158 grain cowboy lead..

 

"Will this fit in my gun?"..

The young feller asked her what caliber her derringer was..

She said "38 special.."

He said "Let me check..." and went to get another guy...

 

I asked her.. "ya said ya got a 38 special derringer?"

she said "Yes"

I said ... "They'll fit yer gun."

 

Ta me.. this young man shouldn't have been manning a booth..

She thanked me and bought the bullets..

Yup. This is a first step. We kinda fell into a Kathy Jackson Cornered Cat training class that caused us to scramble to get the firearms, ammo, belts, holster, mag holders, etc together.

 

Calam's choice of the full sized M&P 9 will work very well for the class. After the class, with her new knowledge and enough time, she'll be able to make informed choices of a CCW pistol, carry method, holster, etc. -- and a proper retailer. We both expect the CCW will likely be a M&P 9C.

 

Proud of her: she did very well out there in the wilds of St. Louie, while I basked in balmy and balmy SoCal.

PS: If all of our pards could keep an eye out for a M&P 9 mag to purchase, we'd be grateful.

Now to Kris, who is lurking in the background.

 

Your selection is just a tool in the self protection 'TOOL BOX'...... as in it fits for the house/car. You will eventual need one for concealed and on your body. Who knows, you may need it to protect UM or child when they are in a scrap and you are along for the ride. Perhaps another S&W but in a smaller frame size.,,,, or another brand,, depends on your clothing selection at the time. Remember, you can never have enough tools (guns) to choose from to get the job done..... come out alive.

 

It is rather interesting, and to develop the knowledge and mind set for CCW and self protection and equipment selection....but keep it in prospective and reality. The gun is the last thing you want to use.

 

Now, to answer Kris original question.... show up with a fist full of $100 bills and say,,,, I want to see THAT firearm,,,,, RIGHT OVER THERE!!! NOW!!!!,,, If salesman has any brain cells,,,, he will obey!!! LOL!!!

Interesting epilogue to this whole thing.

 

I came across a very nice young lady this evening who said she used to work behind the gun counter at {Big Store}. She said she and a couple of friends were "let go" because they didn't "sell" enough guns. She didn't have anything nice to say about that store or the company. She is now working at staying gainfully employed and socking her money away so she and her friends can open their own gun store/range to cater to women. You see, at 18 she was raped one evening after work at {Big Store} and it turned her whole world upside down. She now believes in taking care of herself and wants to teach other women to do the same. {She couldn't have been a day over 23.} I gave her my e:mail address and told her if she ever opened her business, I wanted to know because I want to be one of her first customers!!! You go girl!! She wants to see me after the Kathy Jackson class to let her know what I thought. She would like to know if it's worth trying to scrape the money together to take it.

Ya I had an XD five years ago and hated it. I shot my buddys XDM and tho it is very accurate I feel like I'm shooting a waffle with the aggressive grip design. Heck I can't even eat a waffle without thinking about XDM"s :unsure:

Huh, I didn't mind the XDM grip in the slightest. Have you seen the latest Kel-Tec wizbang, the 22Mag? THAT should be served with syrup and butter.

You're being modest... It's fights over who would get to give you a gift of your choosing!

 

The lady you mentioned is a very brave woman, she is taking a terrible event in her life and making a positive thing from it. I hope she and her friends can find a

way to make a go of it, as I think women benefit from having peers who will understand their issues while they learn and train. Too many of us men do not know how to

put ourselves into a woman's place when it comes to firearms and close quarters combat training.

 

Whether it is matters of teaching techniques that understand a woman's upper body strength to load or clear a jam in a semi-auto, hand size and strength and how

that might relate to using a double action pistol, strength and posture and the use of the shotgun, holster selection for a woman's physiology, or teaching tactical

awareness; there is a need for women who can communicate to other women effectively and in an empowering way.

 

It is a grand and wonderful thing to see the rise in the number of women's schools, by and for women. While we all wish we could be sure of taking care of our

"dainty brides" and "little sisters", it's not possible, and frankly, it's sometimes necessary that they be able to help us as much as we could ever help them.

 

But gentlemen should remember - it is our duty to provide cover fire while she reloads.
