Trailrider #896 Posted February 13, 2014 Share Posted February 13, 2014 Oh, did I ever want to fly an X-15 (there were three)! I was too young. There was talk at one time of mounting an X-15 atop a Titan II launch vehicle, and sending the bird into orbit! They would have had to beef up the thermal protection system considerably to have survived reentry at Mach 25, however! We learned a lot about hypersonic flight, but the program ended way too soon!
