First match today.

So, I shot my first match today. Okay it was a practice match, but still six intricate stages. I had a lot of coaching and missed a lot. My time was terrible and the bear ate me on the last 6 shotgun poppers. I hit the safety by accident (gotta have that damn thing disabled)lost like 20 seconds figuring out why she wouldn't fire. I shot my Blackhawks,a loaner Marlin 73 and a SxS that I just got like, 2 minutes ago. But my cherry is broken! I had so much fun!

My back, legs and shoulder are sore. Before we started shooting there was ice on the tables,in South Florida! All in all one of the best days I have had in a cowboy hat in a long time. My mentor Leadpusher and the Goldcoast Gunslingers are some of the nicest pards I have ever met. Thanks to them for all their coaching and kind help. Just thought I would share.

Congrats and glad ya had fun.

I just went to watch a match one time....they talked me into trying a couple stages...I got home and didn't stop jawing for hours and my wife knew our bank account was in trouble. Been having a ball ever since, and now she pushes me out the door to go shoot. She gets the house to herself for a while and knows when I get home though I may be tired and sore, that I will be happy no matter how crappy I shot.

My wife actually comes to every shoot. She won't actually shoot, but she loves to dress up and jaw with those sittin' and watchin'.

Soooo glad to hear you had fun.

I was last again yesterday and had the best time! It was WBAS and I'm locked in last at those matches.

Could be the people, could be the guns...It doesn't matter all is good! Love these sports!

Don't bet on that.

Welcome Jones!

I've been a doing this for nigh onto 15 years and your post discribed my normal match!

Don't bet on that.

I can...after over 20 years together and lots of shared interests...I count myself real lucky. But just so ya know..if she didn't feel like coming, I wouldn't be insulted at all. Or did ya mean don't bet on she won't shoot. She probably will..in her own good time. Learned that too over the last 20 or so.

My wife watched a match or two and stayed home a couple of times and watched a time or two more. After that she decided it looked like more fun to shoot than to sit and watch. She was ready to try the guns out. I took her out and got her comfortable with the guns with out other people around then she went tried her first match. After that she was hooked.

Jones, you broke the ice and it get's better and better. Glad to hear you had a good time.

I too remember my 1st match, borrowed firearms and all - didn't even know how to load a revolver properly with 5 rounds.

But did have my own shotgun and the knock downs & pop ups were not an issue because I grew up shooting them.

Now remember, those gun catalogs are like a box of chocolates ... go steady filling the safe! ;)

Yahoo!! The results are out and I was not last. Okay, I was 3 above last. Now I have to work towards under 1 minute stage times. Mostly transitions and shotgun work to be done. I am happy for my first time out.

Yep, it's a blast! now say goodbye to extra $$$.

I suck, know I suck, could not care less about the stage times, have a ball every time I go out, strive to shoot clean cause I dont practice enough to shoot fast, and dont care if I dont. The club has made rumblings about either charging we extra for wearing out hour glasses or maybe they may just invest in a sundial.

My goal, shoot safely, have fun and shoot clean in that order, goals I and 2 trump goal 3.

I occasionally will forget to disengage safety but believe it is there for a purpose, so try to remind myself every shotgun stage close barrel disengage safety boom boom.
