Lefty Dude, SASS # 51223 Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 If you lived close by, I'd give you a 9 oz bottle. I hate the stuff. I bought it several Years ago for testing. Forgot why I like Alliant American Select & Unique so much, I guess. I may have loaded 10 44WCF's from the bottle. Any of my local Pards want to Trade, it's yours for a pound of Unique. I will not ship, must be a FTF trade.
Lead Ringer Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 Powder is hard to find all across the fruited plains! Good luck! Ringer

Three Foot Johnson Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 I lucked out on Trail Boss - a friend tried CAS and it wasn't his game, I guess, so last year he sold me an unopened 5# keg, an unopened 9 oz can and a partial 9 oz can for $100... and I already had a 5# keg and half a dozen 9 ouncers. So, I use a LOT of Trail Boss now! If you happen to get from Jacksonville to Montana anytime soon...

Bull Skinner Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 Sure glad I scored 8 lbs of Promo this fall.
Rio Brazos Kid Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 As you all know, The Hodgdon powders made in Australia won't be available till possibly late 2014. Hodgdon also owns IMR. Now guess what??? Trail Boss is also made in Australia.. It probably won't be shipping to the US till late this year either. Just hope for you Trail Boss users that there is a lot still on dealers shelves. If not, there may be a long wait. RBK

Waimea Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 Howdy Chester Is this what you're looking for? If so, you can have it for free. Just come to the Lake County Pistoleros on Saturday dressed as a cowboy and ready to shoot. If you need more details than that you can PM me. I'm just paying it forward from a group that has given me WAY more than I could ever give back. Waimea
Yul Lose Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 There are other powders besides Trail Boss that are available that work very well for SASS loads.
Three Foot Johnson Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Yep. There are probably 30 powders suitable for CAS. Granted, some of them are a bit obscure, and there are 20 more that would work, but be considered a bit slow burning to be ideal. The first 53 listed on this burn rate chart would work, but half of them wouldn't be "ideal". http://www.reloadbench.com/burn.html Herco is an oft-overlooked powder and will do everything Unique will do.
Rio Brazos Kid Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 There are other powders besides Trail Boss that are available that work very well for SASS loads. So true!!! However shooters shy away from any powder not specifically listed in the very small and could be said, "Almost non existent data shown as 'Cowboy Action Powders' that are available and printed for easy access". Over half of the first 50 powders listed in the charts, (as J Bar Binks has stated), are very viable powders for Cowboy Action, and about that many more will work in a pinch, if things get that short. There are plenty of substitutes for the propellant you are now using, and lots of these are still available from Dealers around the country. For instance, any of the faster burning 12 gauge Shotgun Target powders will work extremely well, and there are at least a couple of dozen such powders out there. One type or brand of these powders will be available in almost any area of the USA, IF YOU LOOK. RBK
Jackaroo, # 29989 Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 So true RBK,..but I want to be able to change powders if I have to without having to change the charge bar all the time. That would be a big hassle. So if Im using Trail Boss for instance 2.9-3.0 grains ( i use this here in Aussie in and we have no trouble getting it), & I had to change to something else the grain weight would have to change to get the same outcome.? Now we are moving to OK in a few months for a while, so if I had to change to WST for example, would 3.0 grains give the same result, & would 3.0 grains of HP 38 be the same too as they are close on reloadbench table.?
Konahasset Kid 36337 Posted January 13, 2014 Author Posted January 13, 2014 Wimea. Thats it- but will be in Jax. Saturday- looking for something to load with. Thanks, Chester
Rufus Basset Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 I just hope my place never catches fire. I thought ahead and prepared for this. Powder is out there, ya just gotta look. Maybe when every one runs out I might be able to win a match
Waimea Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Have you been to Acme Reloading Supplies of St Augustine? Konahasset Kid 36337 Posted January 13, 2014 Author Posted January 13, 2014 OK- as of today- two people gave me small amounts of unique, and bullseye. Now have to find the right load info using Chance 122gr bullet's.

NOPE! HP38 and W-231 are identical. WST is totally different. Trail Boss has no clones. RBK
Konahasset Kid 36337 Posted January 14, 2014 Author Posted January 14, 2014 RBK RBK- then someone has to clone TB
Brother King, SASS #69031 Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 I'm a reluctant reloader. Heck, I'll admit it: I hate reloading. I don't do it for fun or relaxation or therapy. I'd pay a therapist for therapy if I never had to reload again. For all my years of shooting sporting, trap, skeet, etc. I used Clays and before that a Winchester that I can't remember. Now it looks like I'll be needing to switch the whole press over to SOME-OTHER-DARN-CONFIG.... so whatever will make the same Low Noise/Low Recoil Featherlight 3/4 oz 12 ga load I'd appreciate it if someone would chime in. Then the TB ... I used CLAYS before but when it gets cold in a 45 LC case it spits more than it burns. I'll be needing some TB or equivaltent or substitute as well for both 45ACP and 45 LC. Again, chime in because I have enough through Winter Range but after that I'm about out for the summer.

Yul Lose Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 Try Titewad for the shotgun, it seems to be available. A dealer out here had quite a bit of it last week.
Brother King, SASS #69031 Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 Looks like there is no Hogdon variant of any kind available anywhere.
Blufrost Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 Try ClayDot as a replacement for clays. Loads at same rates and I feel burns cleaner than clays. My supplier said last week that Hodgden told him they thought clays would be back on the market by September this year.
