I really hope he does turn pro and is drafted by Dallas.

Give me one more reason to increase my dislike for the Cowboys.

He'll probably be another one that won't prosper in the Pros

Agreed, which is why it'd be great if Dallas drafted him.

Posted

Plays with abandon. I don't see him as an NFL quarterback though. He might makea passable receiver. But I'm sure his ego wouldn't accept any other position.

Posted

Somebody is going to pick him long before that Dallas pick.

Many draft experts have him going in the top 10. Some even have him top 5.

If he does fall. I sure hope Jerry passes on him. He has already said they will not

be taking a QB in the first few rounds of the next draft.

P.S. I am a Cowboy fan. It's hard sometimes. BUT. They are my team.

Posted

My hunch is that some desperate team will take him and the punishment he has taken in college for his playing with abandon will pale in comparison to what he gets in the NFL. Does RG 3 ring any bells? Mike Shanahan ruined that poor kid.

Posted

The Titans have the number 11 pick. I really hope someone picks him before that, because we don't have a history of drafting good qbs.

Posted

yeah, after lookin at the Browns last few qbs..... Guess I'm still pissed they drafted Vince Young.

Posted

Young looked good at the time. So did Locker!! Young turned out to be a head case and Locker has durability problems.

If Chicaco doesn't sign both McCown and Cutler, they are idiots!! They need to go for a whole bunch of defensive players and a little pass protection!!

Manziel is another of those "what ever it takes to win" players that, if he gets in the right situation with the right coaching, he'll change how the game is played. If not, he'll be a footnote in football history.

My contention is that the NFL has a certain perception of itself, and anything outside of that perception will be stifled if at all possible. There are no longer any maverick owners in the NFL who will get outside of the box and put together a different kind of team that plays a different kind of football. The Eagles' rapid fire offense is almost outside of the box, but mark my words, it'll likely be gone before the middle of next season. Denver coach Fox's experiment with Tebow was a screaming success, but it was gone the next year despite the results of a rookie QB and a less than talent rich lineup. Denver went out and bought a team to surround an aging Peyton Manning and they're pinning their hopes on this year and maybe next for a short term payoff.

I'd love to see the kind of offensive and defensive diversity we see in College Football spill over into the pros, but as long as the "we don't want that kind of game" attitude remains in the minds of the NFL owners, we'll get the same old stuff we've seen since the fifties and the dumbing down, protect the star players, mind numbing CRAP we're seeing now and have seen since ..............always is all we're gonna' get!!!

Posted

It's probably better than the Brown's, Tyrell

Historically, the Browns have drafted some good QBs. They then get behind an offensive line that folds faster than a pair of twos...

I'll agree with you on Locker, not on Young. That boy couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. A strong arm does no good if ya can't hit what your throwin at. Locker ain't the most accurate either but if he can stay healthy i think he's probably accurate enough.

Warning: The Browns are interested in him and they have an early pick in the draft since they suc&^% big time @ 4-12!!!

Manziel is a talented athlete, but he's the biggest fish in relatively small pond called A&M. Surround him with a great team, like AJ McCarron had at Alabama, where he didn't have to resort to his "big plays", and nobody would have noticed him.

I don't wish bad on hardly anybody, and Manziel is not one of them. However, I don't see him making it in the NFL.

I find poorly performing teams tend to resort to gimmickry if only to inspire the fan base.....to buy shirts and hats.

Fundamentals such as blocking and tackling are forsaken for some loose cannon that can easily break a "X" yard scramble for a score (or just as easily fumble or throw an interception). All this is in the name of generating excitement to keep fans off their backs cause the fans surely can't endure the 3-5 years it may take to rebuild and develop a competitive team.

Who is Johnny Football??

Oh....college football again....can't believe that his on-line bio contains an in-depth review of his high school stats...high school???? Come on!!!

I'll wait to get excited until he's in the pro's and doing something special. Didn't think much of the whole Tebow thing.

I was watching an ESPN analysis of college quarterbacks and they felt he would probably wind up with the Bears but with a lot of reservations about his skills transferring well to the Pros.

Did you have to Google Tebow too? :D

Yeah. The pro-Tebow crowd though he woulddo great due to his "leadership" skills inspite of his lack of other fundamental skills a quarterback needs. I think Manziel has a slightly better chance of making it, but only slightly, depending on the organization he ends up in.

The Browns in their since '99 iteration have had really bad luck on QB's. Either picks that didn't pan out, or, the line got the promising ones messed up before their time. With this years record, they're probably looking at another one. They should go for more WR help to compliment Gordon, plus a a good running back. Hoyer is good enough at QB as long as the leg rehabs well. The coaching change is going to set them back again though :(:blush:

Funny. A STRUGGLING 0 and 4 Denver Bronco team put Tim Tebow in the game with a few tweaks and wound up in the playoffs. When they got there they beat the vaunted Pittsburg Steelers.

Maybe those leadership qualities and sorry fundamentals were/are a little better than you give credit for. Tebow did a lot better than many of those who are supposed to be "NFL material", and as a rookie to add insult to the "knowledgable" talking heads' less than accurate judgement

HMMMMMMMMM!! Playoffs in his rookie year with what was really a sub-par team!! Kinda' says a lot about "NFL material" AND all of his critics! You watch!! If RGIII doesn't pan out, he'll be painted with the same brush!! Cam Newton got the same crap as a rookie and even last year!! Look at his game now!!

Think Labron James!!

To me, Manziel looks a lot like a Drew Brees! Extremely mobile and he can throw the ball a long way, with better than average accuracy!!

I suspect he'll be a Chicago Bear next year.

That would be interesting. He (Manziel) does remind me a little of Jim McMahon!! ;)

The Bears just signed Jay Cutler to a seven year contract with a guarantee of $50 million. I guess SOME NFL people think like I do. Now if they can get McCown signed, they can move on to getting a defense and some pass protection!! :o

He is a legend in central Texas for his Kerrville Tivy HS exploits. Down here he has a middle name, starts with an F...... Tivy opponets would say, "That Johnny F%$%^ng Football, we had him sacked, and he got away!" He pretty much tore up most everybody for 4 years in HS football. He is a little bit of a punk, but sure is fun to watch. I don't know if his game will work in the pros. all of those guys are fast.

Well then you don't know nothing about the Cleveland Browns fans! We've been waiting 14 years since they came back after the team was sold and moved to Baltimore.(Now the Ravens) We haven't won a championship since 1964! No gimmickry in this town! I think they truly see a talent in Manziel, then again they saw talent in the last 5 or 6 quarterbacks too!!!

Nope to the Bears. As pointed out. They signed Cutler to a long term big money deal.

And PLEASE DON'T compare him to Tebow. TT could NOT throw the ball.

Johnny Football CAN at lease throw the ball.

Now if you could put Tebow's head, on JF. Even with him being short. You might have something.

Hard to explain Tebows wins. Divine intervention? It was a wacky season. He just has too many flaws to be a great quarterback. With a great team like hehad at Florida, he might be okay. If he can improve hismdefense reads and passing, he might go pretty far. But his clock is ticking. I like the kid and would be pleased to see him succeed. Too bad he couldn't have stayed with Denver as Manning's backup. That would have been the best learning opportunity of his life. I knewmthe Jets experience would be a disaster.

Agree Badger.

But J Football don't have the head on his shoulder like Russell Wilson.

Who by the way is one of my favorite players in the NFL right now.

He is a LEADER, and is SMART with a good head on his shoulders.

Where JF's head is???

Think JF's head is what will kill him in the NFL.

But he has a shot at making it IF. And the is a big IF he can keep it together.
