Slowhand Bob, 24229 Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Anyone hear anything on this yet? I am starting to wonder if the govt is putting something into the water system out there?
Justice B. Dunn, SASS #3516 Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Heard it on the radio while driving - single student shooter: A student at a school in Colorado shot and wounded another student before dying of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, police say.
Calico Mary Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Two students injured, one with minor injuries, one in critical condition, shooter was a student, dead of self inflicted gunshot....all other students have been evacuated and are being reunited with their parents right now police and bomb squad are searching for possible explosive devices in the school and I THINK at the shooter's house as well.... this makes 4 fer us..... (oops, edited cuz I forgot the one at Deer Creek....)
Lazarus Longshot, SASS #44254 Life Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 News is reporting that shooter used a shotgun.
Slowhand Bob, 24229 Posted December 14, 2013 Author Posted December 14, 2013 BUT that was Joe Bidens solution to fix the random shooting problems!
Shorty Jack Hammer Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Apparently the shooter was targeting a specific teacher who they asked for when they walked in with the shotgun. Word got to the teacher who skedaddled from the school. Probably a good tactical move for the students since once the true target was gone the shooters motivation was removed and forced the self inflicted shot.
Gunflinger Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Anyone hear anything on this yet? I am starting to wonder if the govt is putting something into the water system out there? I drink the water every day and haven't shot anyone. I can't explain it though, I sure wish it would stop. We don't need the grabbers to have any more excuses to get their pens out again.
Calico Mary Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Oh, I think we all know they're gonna try....they didn't really cover shotguns last time around... Turns out there may be a little good news....Channel 7 is reporting that the student that was originally thought to have received minor injuries is actually ok, turned out all the blood on her was from the more seriously injured girl and the first one was unhurt. She'd been trying to help her friend and had gotten so covered with blood that people assumed she had been wounded as well. Docs checked her out and sent her home. The injured girl underwent surgery and is still in bad shape at Littleton Hospital. Prayers for her are still encouraged from those willing.....
Utah Bob #35998 Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 I had to count to ten before responding to the "something in the water" comment. Colorado is no different from Virginia, Connecticut, and others where these events have happened. It is not a matter of location, it is a matter mentally ill people who don't get treatment and others who don't see warning signs in time. It can happen anywhere. Anywhere!
Slowhand Bob, 24229 Posted December 15, 2013 Author Posted December 15, 2013 Bob it is the trend that seems to be developing there, almost like it has become an annual event. And what is so puzzling is that it is rooted within the up-scale middle class areas and not society's dead end places where help would be hard to come by. As far as the warning signs, it seems that in far to many of these the opposite side seems to be the norm, everybody saw the problems coming but no one does anything.
Bad Hand Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 Turns out he was described as a "socialist" by one of his classmates, anti-gun amoung other things.
Mad Dog McGee Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 I hope that this isn't going to set a trend using a shotgun. Biden should have kept his big mouth shut! Even with arming the school staff (being properly trained of course) , going against a shotgun is tactically tough. The element of surprise is the only advantage. These kids know that no one WILL be armed and thus , easy pickings. Until they do arm the staff or have LE at every entrance ; these things will continue. Also notice that in most of these shootings ,that the shooter takes their own life afterwards. NO regard for life at all. Having said this I hope and pray that they don't start using explosives. Real scary if they do. My heart goes out to the families of those affected by these horrible shootings
Branchwater Jack SASS #88854 Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 Bob, There have been studies lately looking into that, so don't think that you are so far off. Some municipalities have been putting Flouride in water for decades. There has recently been a shift in a lot of localities to stop these practices. Now, I don't think this was the case here. Probably just a kid who hasn't ever been taught that actions have true consequences. From the sounds of things, he was used to winning a trophy every time he tried something and was unable to handle rejection for the first time at 18 years of age. A product of the generation.

Or any indication of an annual event. Columbine 1999 Platte Canyon 2006 Littleton 2010 Aurora 2010 (not a school shooting) And Arapahoe last week List of school shootings
Trailrider #896 Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 The whole thing lasted exactly 80 seconds according to county sherrif Grayson Robinson. There was an armed deputy in the school, who rushed down the hall toward the sounds of the gunshots. But it was just too late! In point of fact, the perp is reported to have fired at his alleged target...and missed! Sadly, he then turned the gun on a completely innocent senior girl. Hit her in the face and head. Last I heard she was still in critical condition following surgery. Please prayer for her! The shooter allegedly purchased the shotgun either a couple of weeks ago or several months ago, completely legally (he was over 18 years of age)! And, yes there are not only the NICS checks in Colorado, but also Colorado Bureau of Investigation checks for mental health or domestic violence "holds". There will undoubetedly be questions raised about using metal detectors in schools, etc. In point of fact, the shooter walked in with the gun in plain sight! Apparently he came in through an unguarded door, used by students to enter and exit to the student parking lot. Suppose he had entered through a door guarded by the deputy? If the deputy was standing right there, would he have been able to react in time? Or would he have taken the shotgun blast in the face? No way to know, of course. Maybe behind bullet-resistant glass? Who pays for this? Taxpayers? Parents of students attending the school(s)? (Sigh...)
Bad Hand Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 None of the latest Colorado gun laws prevented this, nor would have any of the proposed ones.
Korupt Karl Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 ..."The recent shooting in Colorado at Arapahoe High School happened to have a Deputy Sheriff on school grounds who was working as a school resource officer, according to a CNN Report He was in the vicinity of the shooter when the rampage began and was able to end the violence in 80 seconds. The initial reports were stating that the police took 14 minutes to arrive on the scene, but we are now learning that wasn’t what ended the shooting. Not even 24 hours ago, we posted an article discussing what we learned from Sandy Hook and what we’re doing about it. Well, this is a perfect example of something we should be doing across the country . The rampage might have resulted in many more casualties had it not been for the quick response of a deputy sheriff who was working as a school resource officer at the school, Robinson said. Once he learned of the threat, he ran — accompanied by an unarmed school security officer and two administrators — from the cafeteria to the library, Robinson said. “It’s a fairly long hallway, but the deputy sheriff got there very quickly.” The deputy was yelling for people to get down and identified himself as a county deputy sheriff, Robinson said. “We know for a fact that the shooter knew that the deputy was in the immediate area and, while the deputy was containing the shooter, the shooter took his own life.” He praised the deputy’s response as “a critical element to the shooter’s decision” to kill himself, and lauded his response to hearing gunshots. “He went to the thunder,” he said. “He heard the noise of gunshot and, when many would run away from it, he ran toward it to make other people safe.” While you’re here, this is a perfect opportunity to revisit "The Illusion of a Gun Free Zone", as it fits like a perfectly matched puzzle piece. We’re tired of being polite. This needs to be common practice. ALLOW LEGALLY ARMED STAFF TO CARRY ON SCHOOL GROUNDS. END GUN FREE ZONES. Share this with as many people as you can, because these are the stories that don’t stay in the headlines for very long. It’s extremely important that people see these mass shootings when they end in this fashion. The media tends to give much more attention to the shootings that have a higher death toll. The reality is, the story above should have more coverage because of the low death toll and praise the officer for defusing a horrible situation that would have been much worse."
Slowhand Bob, 24229 Posted December 16, 2013 Author Posted December 16, 2013 I am old, wore out and dumb. I know enough to understand that this has little to do with guns, whether in the hands of students or teachers, management or labor, et al. Those of us around my age bracket have been around long enough to have watched these changes taking place, slowly at first but then becoming much like a roller coaster. The problems are related to what we have become as a society. We were sold early on that ALL change is good, even as we watched the problems that disproved such a notion. We are now very sick but still so entrenched in the idea that all, so called, modernization is good, that we now vilify those who propose stepping back from the brink. I do not know the answer but I do know that we better start shutting those peoples voices down who use such tragedies to divert our attention towards their agendas and away from their responsibility for these problems. Those anti government people whom we think of as wanting radical fixes now are the same radical voices that once built a great nation. The two tragedies of history have been great kings and complacent minions. Who is really to blame, we are!
