Grizzly Adams 3674 Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Interesting. USS Helena CL50 was one of three USN light cursers sunk during the war. She was sunk by surface torpedo action while engaged during the battle of Kula Gulf. She was replaced with newly commissioned (See above pic) USS Helena CA75. Helena competed her outfitting in the Boston, Massachusetts, and and arrived in NY the next day to take part in the Navy Day celebration. While she never fired a shot in anger during WWI, she served with distinction during the Korean War. USS New York, "NY City's Christmas Ship", would end her days as an atomic test target in Bikini...... USS Missouri and Enterprise histories are well known.. Battleship Missouri is now in Pearl. Quote
