Remember the good old stages

When I was shooting at Cajon, Kalifornia and Park City, Utah... several years ago, stage writeups were being promoted. At Park City the writeup stories were historical events of the area. Since I love Western History, they were interesting. But now, nobody is interested.

I wrote a Christmas scenario once that required the shooter to drink a shot of eggnog before shooting ( off the clock!). I honestly had no idea, up to that time, that ANYONE didn't like eggnog...

I have to admit, he cowboyed up and drank it, but was gagging and spittin' for the next 30 minutes.

Hey Widder,

Shooter must have no more than 5 fingers on each hand!

Guess you'd be stayin home for that shoot too, as you have that there extra set of thumbs on each hand from dippin them in that area 51 green goo a few yrs back!!!:lol:

BTW I like the way things are now(most silly stuff off the clock) as long as its not too a big of a time waster. ;)

Not to get off topic...

Because I love the extry little stunts  ,

but what I don't like are a big old story like:

[simplified from original instructions]

"You've been riding the Kansas prairie for days on end.

You ride your horse into the town and you see Dirty Abe's gang.

They call you a sissy and your horse an ass, so you holler, 'Go pick on some other sugar foot!'.

Shoot them 10 hombres with your six-shooters before you get off'n your cayuse.

And if'n you don't get shot; You dismount and go to the saloon winder and shoot 5 owl-hoots with your rifle.

They you shoot 5 more owl-hoots through the other winder.

There are more owl-hoots heading your way.

You shoot them with your scatter gun.

After you cleaned up the town, head west toward the sunset."

I find them stories kinda confusing.

Ridin a stick horse

Shootin snakes (Pieces of hose)

Carrying saddlebags

Turning over blocks of wood to see what card target to shoot first.

Rolling dice to see the order of the six targets

Sittin on a buck board with springs in all four corners while they rocked you

Puttin shotgun rounds in a wooden box and then carrying the box from point to point with shotgun last

Puttin pistols in a safe

Shootin under a wagon laying on your belly....hell, I couldn't get up now

Sittin on a saddle on a barrel

Layin in a coffin

I enjoyed all of this when we did it,.and if people still wanted it we would still do it...but now it belongs at a fun day shoot and should be publicized before hand.....so people know what they are getting into. I shoot at a lot of different clubs and the attendance at shoots coincides with the target placement, size and the scenairos. Sorry about that, but the fact is people want to hear the steel ring and they want to be able to go faster.....nothing wrong with that. At some point the voices may say we want to go back to the way it was and if enough people say that then we'll be the first to go back.

As we get older, slower, blinder and persnickety we like BIGGER, CLOSER TARGETS....I've heard it loud and clear.

Just my too scents.

You can get just so much

From a good thing

You can linger too long

In your dreams

Say goodbye to the

Oldies but goodies

'Cause the good ole days weren't

Always good

And tomorrow ain't as bad as it seems

A little Billy Joel.......Keeping the Faith......

Keep on shooting.......

Keep on having fun.....The good old stages were shot this past weekend!
