I've gone a broke my foot. The ladder I was standing on collapsed an I fell, breaking my Tallis(sp), heel bone, and basically dislocating everything in my foot. If it was any worse they'd amputate it. That's still an option. I've got an external harness on holding all of the bones in place and I'm looking at taking a few trips to the Hospital before it's all said and done. I've got so many pain pills in me that I can barely see straight. All of this because I didn't check the feet on my ladder.

So, if y'all are needing to climb up a ladder or stool. Make sure it's stable. I'm out of work for a couple of months now because of this. Not to mention what happens when the meds stop working.

Howdy:

Had something similar happen to me - I had one of those folding extension ladders - well apparently I did not have the pins in place to lock it. Climbed up 4-5 feet and it collapsed on me - I fell like 250 lbs of cold pork - FLOP. I had to do the reboot and I laid there for a minutes - all parts checked in except hip and back - OUCH. got up and went inside and slept if off. I was quite stiff the next day. Who would have suspected that the large rocks all over my Arkansas mountain would have bee so hard. D'Oh. Lesson learned - extend ladder - check pins - ok - recheck pins - now climb. It is slower, but totally painless and I don't think my heart needs another jolt from a fall. 4-5 feet isn't much for a person of 20 - it is a VERY long was for an old man to fall.

Take care.

Dorado, there is a specialist in Oklahoma City that is considered the premier go to doctor for this type of injury. Can't recall his name right off, but ask your doctor about him. A friend of mine fell out of a tree stand and drove his tibia through his heel bone, shattering it. This doctor put it all back together, and friend is doing fine now. Pretty long recovery, but worth it.

If you doctor hasn't heard of him send me a PM and I'll get this guy's name for you.

I feel for you. When I was 21 I had a compound fracture of the talus dome. Spent 42 days in hospital and 2 surgeries in 5 days with another surgery 18 months later. I have felt your pain and it is not good. The talus holds all the weight on that leg. Sorry for your mishap and hope you get better soon.

Thanks for all the well wishes. I got a really good doctor from Ft. Worth to fix it for me. Her name is Dr. Lana? Keester. If you ever get hurt like this I highly recommend her. From what I understand the Talus is kinda shaped like a lope sided peanut, with on large lobe, a neck, and a head. I broke the neck completely in half and dislocated the head. I also broke the heel bone in two places.

Hey I have some pictures of my wrapped leg. Ya'll wanna see? I'll try to post links not the actual picture.

I've got two rods in my leg holding my foot in place and one in my heel holding it in place. Bad part is I don't have a cast to doodle on.

This is a diagram of a normal foot.

Here I was, being good and working on the "honey-do" list and I had a "senior moment" and stuck my left index finger in a running hedge clipper. I'm here to tell you that is not a good idea, nor is it fun. Waiting in the ER for x-ray to see how bad the bone is chipped.

Dorado,

I bet you get excited when someone gets close to that foot. I broke the talus dome and they lost the piece that broke off. You have a serious injury there, do as the Dr. says. At least you aren't laying in a hospital ward with nothing to do and no tv. That's what I missed most was the tv and not being able to get up. You haven't lived til you have used a bed pan. You posting this has brought back some funny and not so funny memories. I hope you have a speedy recovery.

Best Wishes,

Ooohh. Are you going to be alright? My dad got his fingers sucked up in the prop of a RC airplane. He got them fixed but he can't move a couple of joints.

I get real excited when someone get close. Fortunately I have some family looking after me, Unfortunately that includes my father. He means well but he has no dept perception and doesn't understand that "Stop you're hurting me!" means Stop you're hurting me. lol.

I'm following my doctor's instructions to the letter. She said that I should heal up real fine but I'll most likely have complications from this later.

I don't miss the TV too much. I'm just going stur crazy here with out anything to do. I'm not used to sitting around. I just cast some bullets but I can't reach the shelf from the wheelchair and I can't move my chair over to my reloading press anyways. Oh well. I'll try to get caught up on my reading. Maybe tie some flys or something.

prayers up for ya pard...quick and complete healing.

Thanks GG and all pards out there. Y'all are going to likely be hearing a lot from me. So sorry if I bother anyone.

Ouch . . . . that hurts just to read about it. Take care of yourself . . . . a foot is a handy thing to have. Don't let them cut it off.

That was a possibility for quite a while. Now it's just an option. I'll probably have to have the bones fused there later on.

Thanks everyone. It means a lot to have someone supporting me and have to talk too. I may never meet y'all but I still consider you friends.

And Blackwater I did see a specialist. The only thing the Dr.s here could think of was amputation. I got a transfer to John Peter Smith in Ft. Worth. Saw a Dr. Keester and she saved me. She's done a miraculous job on me.
