Yosemite Rim Fire

I could see the plume from home today.... :(

Supposedly the smoke plume can be seen from about 100 miles away. On the radio news, someone in Tahoe said the air there was like being in a ring of campfires.

I think this fire is a result of the many decades of total fire suppression that used to be the norm. Many of these areas haven't burned for 50 or 60 years, at least. Lots of debris built up in that time.

Wow. That is... Well, I'm not sure if impressive is the right word or not.

I have to admit, though, that when I read the title of the thread, the first thing I thought was "what kind of caliber is a yosemite rimfire?"

I thought Yosemite Sam shot only a SxS double - didn't know he did rimfire?

Or was it Elmer Fudd with the SxS?

UPDATE -

Overnight the fire in Yosemite National Park grew 7 square miles as
firefighters gained little ground in slowing the now 207-square-mile
blaze, said Daniel Berlant of the California Department of Forestry and
Fire Protection.

More than 12 helicopters and a half-dozen fixed wing tankers are
dropping water and retardant from the air and 2,800 firefighters are on
the ground.

May the Lord watch over and protect the firefights, keep them safe, and grant them the strength to carry on. Some rain wouldn't be amiss either, Lord.

Wife was just out there a week ago, She sure loves those trees. She said they will survive. She said you could see burn marks on some of them...1000's of years old...Yup. They have been through a few fires.
