Not to take away from the post about Duke but it got me thinkin' about Clint Eastwood who had a lot of NON western movies.

Mine would have to be Dirty Harry (the first one in 1971)

You?

The Beguiled? That the one where he killed the little girl's turtle, so she fed him poisoned mushrooms? I saw that once, maybe twice. Interesting role for him. He's normally the hero or the anti-hero. I believe that's the only one where he's the villain.

Yeah, I agree with Space Cowboys. Excellent flick, but it would not be as good as it is without Tommy Lee Jones.

Man this is not easy! Maybe Gran Torino, and then there is Space Cowboys, maybe Dirty Harry or Kelly's Heroes, oh heck I like most all of them.

"The Outlaw Josey Wales" is my favorite Clint movie.

Non-Western Clint movie would be "Dirty Harry."

I'm with BG!

I liked the Philo Beddoe flicks for pure fun - in the same league as McClintock for kick-back-and-yuk enjoyment. Plus, Beverly D'Angelo!

Yeah, Sondra Locke. Clint's one big mistake imho.

Sondra Locke was in "Any Which Way You Can," her character named for a water cooler (Halsey-Taylor). Ms. D'Angelo  was in "Every Which Way but Loose," the first one.

And Ms D'angelo is superior in every way. At least Two that I can think of right off the top 'o my head. ;)

All of them are good.

I would say one of my top favorites is .

Gran Torino

Gran Torino for me. It is actually my favorite Clint movie of all of them, western or non western

Dirty Harry or any from that series.

As a native San Franciscan (of which there are only maybe 4 of us left) I like seeing what the San Francisco of my "youth" used to look like. And yes, it WAS a better city then....though rapidly changing in a direction none of us anticipated. But I digress.....

No question, ours is "Were Eagles Dare". Watch it several times a year if not more, love it. MT

+1. My all time favorite WWII movie.

You are forgetting young Clint singing in Paint your Wagon, but I suppose that is a western...

Heartbreak Ridge

Kelly's Heroes - Oddball: Always with the negative waves Moriarty, always with the negative waves.

Sandra Locke wrote a scathing book about Clint. It didn't sell very well, I think she was a woman scorned!

I'll break from the norm and say "Tightrope". Some of the other actors are pretty hokie but Clint does well as a tormented detective. Second would be "Heartbreak Ridge".

Yeah, Sondra Locke. Clint's one big mistake imho.

But you're forgetting her acting abilities. As an actress, she's second only to a corpse in mid-rigor.

On second thought, the corpse would be a much better actor!

A corpse could act circles around her.

Heartbreak Ridge.

I admire Clint as an actor as well as his political positions (although I don't pay much attention to Hollywood types in this arena as they are typically poorly equipped to have an informed opinion).

Some here may be surprised if they research his history with several of the women in his life. Pretty vindictive fella, but there are two sides to every story.

Josey Wales, overall (including Westerns)

I thought for a minute I was the only one to appreciate this great flick. It is probable one of the most underrated Clint movies. It had everything, including a clever plot that had twists that kept you thinking, besides the action on top of the cable car. Richard Burton did a marvelous job as the multi spy. Thought Clints holding and firing 2 MP40s was a little overboard. MT

Not a Clint flick, but Kirk Douglas "Heroes of Telemark" is a must see after watching this one, recommended.
