Tom Bullweed
Most of the reloading data states to use small rifle primers in the .32-20 (.32WCF). I have done so for a number of years. Now I have an excess of small pistol primers. Any cowboys use pistol primers in their .32-20s? I am shooting original Win 1873 and Colt Lightning. No pistols. Loads are medium loads with W-231 and 115 grain bullets.
Kiowa Kid, SASS #69870L
All the time, that's all I use is small pistol primers in 32-20. KK
Seldom Seen #16162
The 32-20 is hands down my favorite caliber. Winchester small pistol primers with a appropriate charge of AA-5 makes a great target, CAS and varmint round.
Abilene, SASS # 27489
Federal small pistol primers is all I've used in 32-20. First for a 1st gen Colt and lately for an Uberti '73.
Tom Bullweed
Thanks. I just sold my last Uberti 1873 in .38/.357 and have no plans to buy another. This means that I can now use that stash for my more favored .32-20s. I agree that it is a very cool round.
Sage Creek Gus SASS #64320
I've been shooting 32 20 for many years in a number of different rifles. The 32 20 was chambered in handguns, pistol primers are fine. SCG
Bridger, SASS #27230
Not only are they "just fine," they're preferred. 32-20's are what I shoot; been shooting them for more than ten years. Same load in pistol and rifle ('66), all with small pistol primers. Never had a hiccup. Long time ago, I read an article on this topic by Venturino, and that's what he said to do.
