Driftwood Johnson, SASS #38283
Howdy Happy Trails lightened the carrier block on both my '73 and my Henry. The idea is two fold. One, you lighten the carrier. But you also reduce the amount of friction generated by the carrier sliding against the frame. Go to Jimmy Spurs web page and go to the Photos page. Scroll down and you will see a photo of a stock carrier and a lightened one next to it. http://www.cowboygunworks.com/index.html The other thing I will mention is Hap was very careful when he lightened my carriers. The relief cut does not show from the outside, so it is completely an internal modification. A good machinist can mark out the carrier so that the cuts do not show when the carrier is up, and he will only cut deep enough so that he does not go through. Make sure your man is a good machinist.
