Tom Selleck.....he seems like a guy you could hang out with, do some plinking and have a beer or two. Also you know exactly where he stands on the gun issue !

I already said Tom Selleck but since everyone is including a deceased favorite actor mine would be, William S. Hart!!!! The original TWO GUN BILL!!!

See Guns of the Old West mag's summer 2013 for a great article on Hart.

I grew up watching Roy Rogers every Saturday morning, so he'd be on my list. Any of the above mentioned gents would be an honor to visit with.

I've always been a fan of Glenn Ford as I thought he made a great cowboy, so he's first on my list.

I actually met Robert Duvall on the set of Days of Thunder. A good friend of mine was a producer. We had about a 1/2 hour conversation. What an interesting guy to talk to.

However, of all those mentioned above I think I would most have liked to have met Audie Murphy.

I've met Tom Selleck and Sam Elliott. The favorite actor I actually met was the late Ernest Borgnine. He was truly just a regular guy. Selleck and Eilliott were OK but it was hard to converse with them because of all the older women trying to push everyone out of the way.

Met a lot of the other old cowboy actors at the National Cowboy Museum during Western Heritage Awards.

Ben Johnson.

Not only was he a good cowboy actor, but he had been a cowboy stuntman and had his own horse ranch.

A REAL COWBOY.

My choice also. He is an honest to goodness cowboy first and actor later.

No doubt about it for me. It would have to be John Wayne. I understand he was a marvelous storyteller, and I'd like to sit down for drinks and dinner and just let the stories roll!

I've met a few of them over the years... all but one of them was a true Gentleman... one was a AH. Roy and Dale use to come to my town when visiting their daughter. They were a big hit in little town. Jame Arness live in the apartment next to some of my dad's friends. He was neat to meet........... really a Big Man! Buck Taylor is as friendly and as Gentlemanly as can be... Buck even gave me nice autographed poster from Gun Smoke!

However, if I could sit and talk with any cowboy star, it would be with the Original one.... William S Hart. Even though he was from NYC, he spent his formative years in Missouri when the stuff that Western Movies are made about was actually happening. I think that his silent movies reflected a good deal of that, and are, in fact, the best window to the past that we have today.

Back in the late 90's I was shooting a lot of sporting clays. The Nat'l Sporting Skins -97 was held at Lanai HI abd several shooting friends from CO went.

I was friends with the organizer who winked as he handed me the registration...Tom Selleck and Arnold on my squad! That's the first time my wife ever watched me shoot! Plus, I won & the win came with $3k and a signed $5 from Mr Selleck. That and a pic of us all smoking a cigar on the lanai , shotguns racked is one of my fave scrapbook items.

Of course, they were often mobbed but were so genuinely humble about their status that you couldn't help but be happy for them. Two years later they held it again and I went back. Once again, squadded w/ Mr. Selleck, he walked right up, stuck out his hand and said, " Hey, King, how have you been?"

Real deal....and I don't miss a movie, episode or interview. I wish that I could have afforded the guns of Saber River that he auctioned recently.

A friend of mine here in SD made several saddles & chaps etc for him, JJ Croft, tells the same kind of stories about Mr. Selleck. Good guy and takes many risks to be as active as he is about our 2nd A rights.

Another Ben Johnson here.

Would to have loved to ride his horse Steel. One of the most used horses

to the stars back then.

Ben liked him won a World title roping on him.

Got to spend most of the day and go to dinner with Dale Robertson twice.

Seemed to be a great guy. Funny also.

The horse that Ben Johnson rode in this film was a famous movie horse used by many stars in many 1940s and 1950s westerns. It was a big sorrel stallion called "Steel" and was owned by Johnson's father-in-law, Clarence "Fat" Jones, who ran one of the most successful horse-renting stables in Hollywood. The horse, which was known for being very quiet but flashy, was ridden by John Wayne in Tall in the Saddle and The Conqueror, Gregory Peck in Yellow Sky and Randolph Scott in The Tall T. The horse made stars look like good riders and Fat Jones always that insisted if "Steel" was used in a movie, the company hire every other horse used in the movie from his stable, so "Steel" was worth a fortune to him. "Steel" had his own double and the horse that Johnson rides in the galloping scenes was not "Steel" but a spectacular galloper called "Bingo". "Steel" was no movie prima donna, however. Johnson also rode him when he won his world champion calf roping title. He also rode both "Steel" and "Bingo" in Wagon Master.

Maj. Gen. James Stewart. He and my Dad both flew B-24s in WWII and afterward served as general officers in the Air Force Reserve. A gentleman and citizen warrior, the real deal. Dad had the greatest respect for him.
