Ancient Potables

REAL ancient.

One of the brews on hand comes from the oldest known drink recipe in the world. Dogfish crafted Chateau Jiahu based on the evidence from artifacts near the town of Jiahu in China that date to 7000 B.C.—before the dawn of writing. "The only way you could get this recipe is by chemical and botanical analysis," McGovern says. Based on the archaeological evidence, the drink is a sort of beer-wine-sake get-together made of grapes, grain, hawthorne fruit, and more.

I put a pint jar with holes in the lid in a silo to collect the silage fermentation residue one time.

Some seriously nasty stuff I dug out three months later.

Not recommended.

Silage likker is potent but notoriously unkind ...

That ancient Chinese beer does sound interesting!

So that's when things began to go downhill.

Try using a corked crock jug, and place it at the bottom of the silo. The pressure of the silage will force the alcahol through the crock. Pure corn squeezins.
