Bottom Dealin Mike, SASS #22273 Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 Taylor's & Company in Winchester, Virginia are carrying a reproduction of Smith & Wesson's New Model No 3 Frontier Model revolver. This gun is build by Uberti and is chambered for .45 Colt cartridges. In this video I'll give you some background on the New Model No 3 Frontier, and we'll take it to the range.
Buck Bisley Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 Great job Mike! I had wanted to order a pair of those; but they are as scarce as hens teeth. After many months of waiting, calling and asking, the gals at Taylors recommended I buy a pair of Russians that they had in stock as they had no idea when my Frontiers would arrive. I bought the Russians and had them converted to look like NM3s http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s35/AbominableBill/IMG_0101.jpg The plus is that they are fixed sighted where the Taylors NM3s are the Beretta Laramies and have the adjustable blade. Also had my gunsmith do some work on them to allow me to shoot BP and subs without them binding up too quickly.
Bottom Dealin Mike, SASS #22273 Posted May 24, 2013 Author Posted May 24, 2013 Wow. You did a great job on the conversions...I like 'em!
Big Whiskey Jim SASS 74667 Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 I have had mine for a couple of years. I was on the waiting list for a Schofield when I talked to Taylors at the Dulles gun show. They had some new model 3 frontiers they had just gotten in, I think they were the first batch they recieved. After holding it I cancled my order for the Schofield and went home with the frontier. Great gun, mine shoots pretty close to POA with my trailboss loads. I shoot it much better that my colt SAA.
Buck Bisley Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 Thank you Mike! The praise goes to my gunsmith. He did a great job on them. I liked them as Russians; but really wanted the NM3s. Google-ing images of NM3s on the web and comparing the contours made me realize that there is not too much difference there. Sure the Russian's ejector area is longer and the radius at the top of the grip is a little bigger. I gave my gunsmith pictures of NM3s and asked if he felt it was possible. When they returned and I opened the case, I was thrilled. I felt he had done a perfect job. They shoot very close to POA using my 200gr RNFP backed with APP loads The NM3 grip shape is the most comfortable that I have ever held. I'm shooting FCD with them and enjoying every moment It would be great if Uberti could ramp up production of the Taylor New Frontiers to make them more available.
