Thunderbolt & Skyraider

It took the Germans a while to learn the 1st Commandment when dogfighting a Thunderbolt: Thou shall not dive away from a Thunderbolt.

According to the pilots nothing in the world went downhill faster then a Thunderbolt in a dive.

And the running joke about the Skyraider was that wasn't how much fuel and weapons it had onboard that determined the combat radius, but how much oil for the engine it had. Look at any picture of a Skyraider in a combat zone and you can see the oil.

I've read that when the P-47 was first introduced in Europe, they wer sometimes mistaken as FW-190s and engaged by allied pilots.

Aircraft recognition was NOT a strong suit of a lot of pilots
