2 shot by officer in San Francisco after replica gun pulled

SAN FRANCISCO — Two people are in the hospital with what police

described as life-threatening injuries after being shot early Sunday by a

San Francisco police officer who opened fire when a person pointed what

turned out to be a replica gun.

The trouble started around 2 a.m. Sunday after a group of people

left a bar in the city's Mission District and were involved in

altercation with a second group, said Officer Gordon Shyy, a department

spokesman.

Officers responded when one person ran to a nearby

police station and told authorities there was a person brandishing a

gun. The two people were shot by the officer after he opened fire when

he saw the suspect pointing the gun at the group, Shyy said.

"The officer discharged his firearm in order to preserve the safety of those people," Shyy said.

Police later determined that the suspect's firearm was a replica.

Authorities

haven't released the names of the officer or the people who were shot.

Specific details regarding their wounds and conditions were not

immediately available.

After the shooting, a number of people were detained at the scene and were being interviewed by investigators.

The

incident is the second shooting in two days in the San Francisco Bay

Area in which police fired weapons at suspects armed with fake guns.

On

Friday, Oakland police shot and wounded a burglary suspect after he

came out of a West Oakland home with what was later determined to be a

fake handgun.

I think in times past they called that thinning the herd.

I find it hard to summon up a lot of compassion for stupid actions.

This is not a PC answer for California....But I do agree...Stupid actions can get you hurt or some one else...

HAHAHAHAHAHA. If I am PC, I am the wrong person, TL.

I ain't got a PC bone in my body. I just think that beliving you are not responsible for your

own actions is stupid and dangerous.

That seems to be what they want here in this state...No responsiblty for your own action...Its always someone elses problem...Not mine...

one suspect, two people shot. Not a good day for the officer.

It's not at all unusual for depressed/ suicidal people to intentionally point guns at cops.

Less frequently for someone who's just a dumbass, but it happens.

It says he was pointing a gun at a group. Might not heve seen the officer at all.

People can be very dangerous in their stupidity.

My thoughts go to the GW McLIntock quote. "You've caused a lot of trouble this morning might have got somebody
killed. Somebody oughta belt you in the mouth but I wont, I wont the hell I won't"
