Doc Flimshaw Sass# 73310 Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 I think they used to have one at the old santa monica museum of flying.....Doc
Utah Bob #35998 Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 I'd like to see a dogfight between a Lysander and a Storch.
Doc Flimshaw Sass# 73310 Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 I'd like to see a dogfight between a Lysander and a Storch. Ask and ye shall receive:....well not exactly a dogfight
Utah Bob #35998 Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 I wanna see em dogfight. Using a Luger and a Webley!
Subdeacon Joe Posted April 4, 2013 Author Posted April 4, 2013 Two very different critters. The Lysander was a sort of all around work horse. The Stoch a dedicated recon/observation aircraft. Great video, Doc.

Uno Mas SASS #80082 Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 Gawd, nobody could uglify a plane like the Brits could.
Doc Flimshaw Sass# 73310 Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 Gawd, nobody could uglify a plane like the Brits could. I think they used all the good looks on the spitfire and maybe the mosquito and nothing was left for the rest.......Doc
Smuteye John SASS#24774 Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 Gawd, nobody could uglify a plane like the Brits could. You sure? Check out some of the Italian planes of the same era.
Utah Bob #35998 Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 You sure? Check out some of the Italian planes of the same era. That's what I was gona say. Look like they were made by a committee of carpenterss, pipefitters and auto mechanics using some old DaVinci blueprints and parts from expresso machines.

Is it your day to be a button pusher?
Uno Mas SASS #80082 Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 You sure? Check out some of the Italian planes of the same era. Oh, come on now! They had style. Savoia Marchetti SM.79 Fiat G.55 I Centauro Cant Z.506B Airone Reggiane Sagittario Too bad they were flown by Itralians.
Smuteye John SASS#24774 Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 Oh, come on now! They had style. Savoia Marchetti SM.79 Fiat G.55 I Centauro Cant Z.506B Airone Reggiane Sagittario Too bad they were flown by Itralians. Yeah, that's what Citreon and Pugeot owners say about their cars, too. Bob, Don't blame Leonardo for those planes. He would have had better aesthetic taste than that!!
Constable Nelson #11784 Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 Yes.. but both the FIAT and the Regginae only looked good AFTER the Germans provided the DB engines.... prior to that all the italian fighters had REALLY ugly front ends because of the originally fitted radial engines (which is all the Italian designers had to work with) Ever see the version of the Lysander with the tail mounted turret (the p.12)??? Never went in to production.. but an interesting idea! (Yes.. VERY "homely" indeed!) As to "uglifying" aircraft... better not throw stones when living in a glass house!!! Where to start... the B10? The XF-85 Goblin? The X-32?
