Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 Folks, I've been gnawing at this for several months and finally had to get it off my chest. The Grumpy Lunch Bunch is about having fun while getting fed and socialized. When Joy Belle, Old Scout, and I set this whole thing up we deliberately DIDN'T put down many rules. We figured we weren't really in charge and we certainly weren't a government. There are no by laws, no charter, no officers, no organization whatsoever.I fell into setting the schedule and sending out the lunch announcements / notices, and keeping the list of places we have been an may want to go, and I can tell you about when we went there last. I also have a sheet of possible day trips that no one seems eve remotely interested in.SO..........................here's where we are today. I AIN'T FUN ANY MORE!!!! Because of that I'm unilaterally making some changes. I don't have any power to enforce them, but I can stop doing what it is I do if no one goes along. I know: I'm a horses ass and thank you so very much for noticing. Everyone likes to be recognized when they make an effort.1. I'm not going to send out individual notices by e-mail anymore. The last few months it seems like too many people aren't reading them anyway, so I'll send them to Cliff Hanger and he'll post them on the Brimstone Pistoleros web site. Were all gown ups, so check it out about a week before the next one / a week after the last one and make your plans accordingly.2. No more show and tell during the lunch. If you have something to show off or share leave it in your ride and take care of it after we finish. We are getting close to ticking off the management of places we visit, annoying other people at lunch, alienating other GLB members, and possible endangering everyone by exposing us to legal action.3. Show a little more consideration and common sense at lunch. These things get crowded anyway an sometimes the are noisy. Don't add to it by aggravating folks. 4. If you want to take pictures get permission, take them without getting in someone's face, and be advised that I'll never object to having my picture taken as long as you don't ask me to "pose' or otherwise bother me. I hate cameras and I guarantee you a free colonoscopy if you bug me.5. If you have a problem with the places we've been eating send me suggestions. I've been asking for new eating places ever since we started the GLB and most people haven't bothered. It would help if you check out the places first. We need adequate parking, separate checks, NO TV (I know! I screwed that one up myself. Sorry.), reasonable cost, good selection, good service, adequate seating (preferably no booths), and a pleasant atmosphere. 6. If you have a problem with someone, HANDLE IT! I'm not a mediator, I'm NOT Springer or Oprah, and I'm NOT your Chaplain or Rabi. I'll listen to complaints, but it's not up to me to solve your problems. Now that I've offended almost everyone, I'll sit here and wait for the slings and arrows. Let me know if you want to take over and I'll give you all I have to make it work.If you want to break off and form your own group I'll help you with that, too.Should you prefer to quit and walk away, speak up so we won't worry about where you've gone. Opinions are welcome. Personal insults arent.

Calamity Kris Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 I wish we could come to more GLBs. I hope to get the chance in the near future. You're an outstanding cat herder, 4T. Bless you for doing this for all that choose to participate.
Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted March 28, 2013 Author Posted March 28, 2013 Damn, just when I get three Gold Coins (1853-1857-1858) to show and tell, you stop doing it. Curley Cole will just hafta see 'em later.. Musta been when I was bringing in all them Derringers or Big 'Ol Hoglegs I just bought. I didn't bring no cameras....so somebody else gits that one. Just sayin' Jake Curley isn't going to be at the next one anyway. He has something else that he erroneously thinks is more important (although practically nothing else truly is) with family or doctors or some other equally inane waste of time. The show and tell is just getting disruptive, and if we show one thing we are obliged to show others. Parking lots are a different matter. The management can't be responsible for what happens in the parking lot, but we could end up causing them grief for inside activities. I'd like to see more people come out and I'd still like to see the concept spread all over the country. It's fun and it's a social outlet that many of us don't have. There is not the pressure to "get on with it" that prevails at matches. It's more relaxed, not as focused on the shooting...or much of anything else..., and it's really not that hard to do. From the beginning, along about GLB # 4, we started the idea of not having any lunch twice in a row at the same place. We have some favorites that we visit two or three times a year, but with over 40 possible places (and more adde all the time) we don't get bored with the setting. We cover a hundred mile long area north to south and maybe fifty wide. We meet on a working day (alternate Thursdays) at 11:00 AM, so working folks can't always...or never...get there. 11:00 beats the lunch rush, Thursdays are slow anyway, and every other week keeps it from pushing too much and getting hectic. I find that doing this is great therapy, at least for me. There are times when I don't find a hell of a lot to laugh about for two weeks and then spend an hour or so busting my sides at a GLB lunch. Try it. You'll like it.
