A Frustrated Feinstein : Her Assault Weapons Ban is Nixed...for now.

Whither assault weapons ban: “Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) said on Monday that a controversial assault weapons ban will not be part of a Democratic gun bill that was expected to reach the Senate floor next month,” Politico notes. “After a meeting with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Monday, a frustrated Feinstein said she learned that the bill she sponsored — which bans 157 different models of assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines — wouldn’t be part of a Democratic gun bill to be offered on the Senate floor. Instead, it can be offered as an amendment. But its exclusion from the package makes what was already an uphill battle an almost certain defeat.”

Don't think for a minute this is the end of the Feinstein crusade. We'll see it rise again in some form...bank on it.

OLD DIANE is 79 pushing 80 this is her last gasp .I doubt she will run again and may not finish her term.listening to her rant leaves one to question her sanity. She appears to be losing it. :D

It's a "trojan horse" maneuver that allows an amendment to be attached to an unrelated bill in the middle of the night when no one is paying attention. Harry Reid is one crafty S.O.B. These two, Reid and Feinstein, having been doing this a loooooooooooooooong time. They cannot be trusted. Don't turn your back!

And all the people said "AMEN!" If not now, then after the 2014 midterms. Either in desperation while they still have a majority on the floor, or, with their one or two seat majority, acting on the "clear mandate" from the people.

SDJ is right. Reid already told her weeks ago that it would be offered as an amendment. Thsy'll slide it in an appropruiations bill or some innocuous healt care bill to be voted on just before the session ends.

Keep your ears to the ground fellers!

In a late night session.

This is one where I have to despair, it won't do me a damned bit of good to write, call, or visit my senators - I can just see FUBAR or Boxer granting me, a broke nobody who can't and wouldn't give them a dime, an audience to ask that they vote against it.

Y'all remember the guns in parks amendment. They patched it onto a credit card reform bill that HAD TO PASS.

We'd better have a good grip on the pending legislation as the time passes. We can only hope that when it happens it can be caught and cleared off in House/Senate resolution action.

Anti-gunners have been around long enough to know that a publicized "set back" like this will put many pro-gunners to sleep, thinking they've now beaten the wolf back from the door and that's that.

If you're a pro-gun advocate, don't doze off now. This tactic has been used effectively in the past only to come back and bite you in some less conspicuous way such as attaching it to other bills as an amendment.

Stay vigilent; Stay resolved

Those of us in CA pretty much know that instinctively. Last minute amendments, late night and late session deals, gut and amend tactics (not sure if Congress allows that), and other things.

Shame the rest of you are having to learn the lesson too.

Yep. Just look how the last election went. They made it sound like Mitt had it and too many pulled back figuring he was going to win.

that is great news folks

but it took a lot of money from the likes of NRA etc to delay that battle

lets stay in the fight

The war chest is probably severely depleted after this battle and needs refilling. The NRA sold ife memberships at deep discount to fund this battle. They would have hocked Evil Roys guns from the NRA Museum if that's what it took. When you get your income tax refund see what you can send to the NRA and give extra with the Roundup for the NRA program when you make internet purchases. tHE oNE is still in office and this fight isn't over.

Don't think for a minute this is the end of the Feinstein crusade. We'll see it rise again in some form...bank on it.

Until our side begins to take the battle on an offensive we will continue to see this offered again and again and again every time they see a moment of opportunity like Newtown CT or Aurora CO or.... whatever the next one happens to be.

Those states that enacted 'no enforcement' provisions are the only examples of success in an almost 50 year continuing loss of our 2nd Amendment rights.

Consitutional conservatives and the NRA have to begin a serious reflection on what is in my view a FAILED strategy of 'defending the Constitution' and 'defending our rights under the 2nd Amendment'. Unless we take the offensive and find champions in Congress and state legislatures who will advance National Right to Carry and other laws that encompass the "Right of the People shall not be infringed" we will continue to witness another 50 years of slow, steady chipping away at those rights and then the others.

Witness the bravery of Rand Paul in his defense of the 4th Amendment and then realize that it's no longer just the 2nd Amendment or even the 1st with 'hate crime speech, etc.' that we continue to lose all of them.
