gun violence stats

First of all, thanks for the creation of this forum. This kind of solidarity and organization is crucial for our future.

 

I've been trying to find the following stats, specifically for 2012.

 

Number of shootings (criminal, not justified/self-defense)

 

Break down by weapons type. Handgun/shotgun/rifle/assault rifle

 

Number of these guns used by the legal owner.

 

I know these stats have to be out there, but I can't seem to find them. I would think these would give a snapshot of how little damage is done by assault rifles, if my assumptions are correct in that the vast majority of shootings are with guns other than assualt rifles and are carried out by people who don't legally own the guns. And, most likely could not legally own a gun.

 

If anyone can give me some guidance on where to look, I'd appreciate it.

Since this is only March of 2013 I very much doubt that you will find any meaningful compilation of 2012 stats. Maybe 2011 is available.
