St. Louis Suomi SASS #31905 Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 Howdy: In looking at thee two models, I have seen that the Blackhawks appear to be less in price than the Vaqueros. Looking over the specs, I cannot seem to identify the reason for this price inequality? Does anyone have an idea why this is so. It would appear to me that a steel gun of either model should be the same in price. Or am I snorting oatmeal? STL Suomi Quote

Rio Brazos Kid Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 I have both, which I alternare between from time to time. Actually I like shooting the Blackhawks a but more than the Vaqueros. This is because the adjustable sights on the Blackhawks make then a cinch to shoot really accurately when the need presents itself. Things like small and distant plate racks are a cinch with the Blackhawks, while it takes serious concentration to do well with the Vaqueros. Overall, my times are a tad better with the Blackhawks, although not a significant difference. Both styles are a pleasure to shoot. RBK Quote

Tom Bullweed Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 About thirty dollars difference in a Blackhawk and a Vaquero (both new, blued, similar caliber) at a local shop. I shoot about $450 of reloads in each of my Rugers every year. This seems to pall the difference in the cost. Buy what you want and enjoy the heck out of it. Pistols with adjustable sights can only be shot in the aged-based categories. Quote

Several of our top shooters have switched over from Vaqueros to Blackhawks. No question the sights are more visible. Personally I don't care for the current model blued Blackhawk with the aluminum grip frame and the huge cylinder. Just seems out of porportion to me. That 50th Anniversary Edition is a whole 'nother story. I wish they'd make that a regular catalog item. Quote

Dave, At my age and personal desire, I'll never shoot anything but age based categories anyway. There are no Cadillacs in my future for sure. So either style gun is never going to be a problem for me. It's just a pleasure to be there and shoot!! Quote

Dave, I have a set of the new SASS Vaqueros, plus another for spare, plus a set of the "Baby Vaqueros" in 32 Mag.. So I'm well equipped for most categories, and certainly any category that I would ever be interested in. I just happen to like my Blackhawks very much also. Actually I have firearms,pistols, rifles and shotguns, to fit every SASS category except Frontiersman, and also have all necessary items for Wild Bunch shooting. RBK Quote
