Utah Bob #35998
Not dead. Murky. But as I've been saying, the biggest threat is from state legislatures across the country. The Feds won't have to do a thing if some of the insane legislation proposed in state capitols. Link to comment
Okie Sawbones, SASS #77381
Not dead. Murky. But as I've been saying, the biggest threat is from state legislatures across the country. The Feds won't have to do a thing if some of the insane legislation proposed in state capitols. Exactly right. Some of us have said it would make it through the House. Sadly, some of the far left blue states are foaming at the mouth. Link to comment
Charlie Harley, #14153
The state-by-state response will be the tale of the tape. New York was the first to pounce followed by Colorado and a few others. But then there's Tennessee and a few others whose legislatures are working on bills to allow teachers with permits to carry concealed in classrooms and to bind state officials from enforcing new federal firearm laws. It's an interesting and murky time for sure. Link to comment

Subdeacon Joe
What we need, as much as I hate to give more power to the feds, is a federal preemption on the 2nd. Much like some states have to prevent counties and municiplaities from passing more stringent gun laws than the state has. Link to comment

Six-Shot
I just hope folks in solid red states don't get complacent. Watch your legislators closely folks. Demographics of a state can and do change. Look at my beloved Colorado. Heart of the west. Run by liberals now. Legal grass and looming gun bans. Stay vigilant! I lived in Colorado up near the Wyoming border for a while back in the early 70's. I traded my VW bus for a horse and a chain saw and worked for a land development company in Steamboat Springs. I helped build the Steamboat Inn (with hindsight that was the beginning of the end for Colorado). I moved back to my beloved New Hampshire which was a "red state" until the early 90's when the Dems began to win politically. I drove through the same area (thinking of moving back there) back in the late 90's on my way to California and I didn't recognize the place, condos as far as the eye could see! I drove up to some hot spings where I used to bathe after a hard days work and it was now a privately owned commercial venture. After a long lineage of Republican governors as far back as I remember we recently had a Democratic governor for four terms but a republican House and Senate. In the last election back in November 2012 we have a new Demomocratic governor, and the House is now controlled by the Dems. NH has passed "gay marriage" and is in the process of legalizing "pot" and gambling casinos. The only thing holding back "the tide" is a slim two vote majority in the Senate Link to comment
Badlands Beady
Federally, I'm betting the AWB is pretty much dead. The magazine limit could still make it through, and probably will. Any mental-health provisions are almost certain to be adopted. Results for individual states are going to vary, of course, but I'm figuring 1/3 of them will adopt some sort of stricter laws, with maybe 1/4 of those being overturned or altered by the courts at a later date. Sort of like the people who buy a house near an airport then try to shut down the airport because of the noise. Don't like it? Leave. Now, to quote my own oft-stated response to statements like yours: At the turn of the century, only ONE out of every ELEVEN adults in this state was a native. And remember only a portion of the population took part in our Revolution. Fightin ain't for everybody. I have no problem with people moving out because of the bad business climate here, or maybe the anti-business climate would be a better way of putting it. Or because they can buy a decent house for about a third the price of one here. But the ones who leave ONLY because of the gun laws - and I have know a few, a very few, of those - I'll say to 'em "Let the door hit you in the back side as you leave!" Yeah, a lot of the gun laws suck. But I would darned near bet a pay check that those who do the "If they pass one more anti-gun law I'm movin' out!" schtick have never even bothered to fire off one email to their assemblyman saying "Please vote NO on AB-***." Might even be lucky if they vote in a presidential election, much less a mid-term. It doesn't take all that much to write a few emails a month. Be nice if we could get even half of the gun owners in CA to write to their members of the legislature once a month. Might turn things around. But we sure as heck WON'T get things changed if we just abandon our state to the antis. Link to comment
