The Bill is SB 1272

TALLAHASSEE --

Gun control continues to be a hotly debated topic in the U.S., as well as Florida.

State leaders are looking at how weapons are purchased at gun shows.

In the wake of the school shooting in Newtown, Conn. there has been plenty of talk in Washington about tougher gun laws, but, so far, Congress has yet to act.

Now, a Florida lawmaker says the state needs to take matters into its own hands.

Democratic Sen. Arthenia Joyner of Tampa has filed a bill to close the gun show loophole, which allows people to buy a gun from a private party at a gun show without having to undergo a background check.

If the bill were to pass, the only people allowed to hawk weapons at gun shows would be licensed firearm dealers and under law, they would have to conduct those checks.

Supporters say it could have a big impact on crime. They point to figures showing 30 percent of the guns connected to crimes can be linked back to gun shows.

However, gun rights advocates argue the drive to close the loophole is an overreach.

Just for some more info, the 30% of the guns used in crimes linked to the gun show sales is B.S.

In that statistical analogy they traced these guns back to the gun shows sales but they failed to remove the ones that were then stolen by the perp who commited the crime from the person who bought it at the gun show. Guess that middle man (criminal) doesn't count.

So I am confused by the wording:

"Prohibiting any person other than a licensed dealer from being a gun
show vendor; prohibiting the sale or transfer of a weapon at a gun show
unless a licensed dealer is a party to the transaction"

Can you walk outside the building or to the parking lot and not be AT THE SHOW anymore?

Where is the boundry when the transaction becomes a private transaction?

Because, of course, if this gets passed private transactions will be next.
