Lower Makefield Township

Our rights are being attacked in Lower Makefield Township and your voice is needed to counter the current tide of vocal gun control supporters. Your action is needed on two fronts:

  • Please plan on attending the next Lower Makefield Township Supervisors meeting on February 20 at 7:30 pm at the Lower Makefield Township building . One of our members will be there to make a public statement opposing gun control and supporting the 2nd amendment. We need to have a strong presence at this meeting. For additional information regarding the recent meeting and discussions, please refer to to http://www.lmt.org/board-of-supervisors.php. Please respond and let me know that you will be attending this meeting. It is exceptionally important that we should a strong, united front.
  • Send an email to all LMT Supervisors (you can include them all in one e-mail, or compose separate e-mails) indicating your position. A sample email that you can cut and paste into your own email can be found here.

Pennsylvania & Bucks County

Augmenting Lower Makefield, one local State Representative, Steve Santarsiero, has been leading efforts in Bucks County to start a grassroots gun control movement right here. It is very important we send the message that they are outnumbered. Santarsiero's proposals have even gone so far as to include outright confiscation. Please make sure Rep. Santarsiero hears from you if you live in his district. Check his box for "Civil Rights Protection," since that is, appropriately, what demanding your Second Amendment rights be protected is. You can find out whether you're in his district by checking here. We have many club members who live in this district.

Finally, the February Legislative Report, delivered at each General Meeting, starting at 7:30 on the Second Wednesday of the month, can be found on the club web site here. Also, club members may be interested in this report from Obama's Department of Justice, which reveals the Administration believes it's own advocated policies will be ineffective, noting, "Since assault weapons are not a major contributor to US gun homicide, and the existing stock of guns is large, an assault weapon ban is unlikely to have an impact on gun violence. If coupled with a gun buyback and no exemptions, then it could be effective." "Buyback" is the new euphemism for confiscation. The document makes numerous references to the Australian buyback program. When Australia banned all semi-automatic rifles in 1997, gun owners were forced to turn them all in, but received $200 dollars in compensation from the government. The alternative to taking this payment and turning over the guns was jail time. NRA is

We rallied at the local level tonight. We won a small victory. About 2 weeks ago, a group of people best described as a grass roots movement encouraged by our state senator, asked our township supervisors to lobby the county association of township officials to lobby the state association of township supervisors to lobby the state general assembly to remove the states Preemption Doctrine as it relates to possession of firearms on public lands.

This is a really sneaky move.

Our township heard from 2 anit civil liberty proponents and roughly 6 pro 2nd amendment people who spoke out against the resolution to lobby. Our gun club political rep was there and spoke, a couple of victims of violence spoke out, I spoke as a concerned citizen. The town ship received perhaps 20 emails on the subject and there were about 25 pro 2nd amendment people present at the townaship meeting. These are really small numbers but….

The township reversed their decision to lobby "upward". The township decided not to be used by others and to stick to the business of running the township. Something the township supervisors do very well around here.

So, for future reference, help keep your local elected public officials out of the national spot light and focused on local issues!

And show up, speak and be heard! It really does work and we can fight the fight at the local level. ;)
