Hoss
Ruger SP 101 .357 2" barrel. small, packs a punch. and I just prefer the revolvers. Holstering a semi auto, especially IWB, always gives me the willys. I worry about my shirt tail getting caught in the trigger. Plus, when it positivly has to work, I just like the reliability of a revolver. I have a Glock 17, never had a feeding problem, but I dont want the first one to be when I need it the most. Gunner Gatlin, SASS 10274L
And HEAVY ...........S&W mod. 340SC .357 weighs in at less than a pound-loaded. Have one in my front pocket now......... LG I wouldn't being carrying all day - just in certain times...not like it's a duty gun . I have two friends who like it and it doesn't bother 'em. Better than a 1911 in the weight department though - which is about 44-46oz loaded versus 31-33oz for the SP101 with .357 Mag JHP. If I were to carry more often I would maybe choose a 9mm +P type capable polymer framed pistol. GG ~

Trailboss (Santa) Dave
I have used a 1911 for USPSA, NRA Action, and carry so long it feels like an old friend. But I also have been known to carry a 4 inch 610 S&W, 2 inch K frame S&Ws, and a Walther PPK/S. But if I had to pick just one it would be a 1911. Steel-eye Steve SASS #40674
snip I carry my SR 1911 Because life's too short to carry an ugly gun.. snip If I wanted to make a fashion statement, I'd carry my 1920's vintage C96 Bolo Mauser! I have nothing against 1911s. I own four and shoot them pretty good, however my wardrobe and lifestyle restrictions pretty much restrict me to pocket carry. For that I use either a LCP or LC9 with crimson trace lasers. I shoot them both very well. I have prettier options, but I would really hate to lose either of them. I have no such attachments to either the LCP or LC9.
ShadowCatcher
The are some small and light carry guns out there . I carry my SR 1911 Because life's too short to carry an ugly gun.. I shoot a 1911 good . With a good heavy belt and a good holster you can carry a full size 1911 easy. What is your Primary carry gun ? And why ? I used to carry a 1911 all the time - but after a few decades I find that my back is no longer so tolerant of it. I now carry a Browning High Power that has been worked over by Cylinder and Slide for me, in the winter. In the summer I carry a Kahr K9 plus two mags and all my 9mm guns are stuffed with CorBon DPX. I love the 1911 platform, and if we were in a place where more open carry was possible, I'd probably go there. Alas, these days concealment is king, so I go smaller frame, and my back thanks me every night! Shadow Catcher
Griff
Colt Combat Commander, 45ACP. In a Milt Sparks Summertime Special. If you think it's ugly, good. Hope all the bad guys in the world do too. As one that I arrested said, "...man it just ain't fair, you doan look like no narc! That big hole in that lil' gun is pure hell to look at." The grip is a little worn, and the bluing on the slide is a bit ragged, but... she feeds, fires and ejects reliably. The beauty is in that she does all that... the rest is just semantics and rhetoric.

Yeah, I know it's a mouse gun but have never found anyone who wanted to stand there and see iffn' it really hurt. And I can keep a group on a head sized plate at 25 ydards. Rooster Ron Wayne
My wife also carrys a Beretta Bobcat loaded with CCI Singers. She loves the gun and she is not afraid to shoot it. Like you said, she has had no takers on trying the little mouse gun out . Is it ideal for a carry gun ? Its better than your 1911 left at home ! Rye Miles #13621
I carry a S&W Airweight in my car daily. I go into people's houses , schools and churches for my work. I therefore need something small I can tuck in my pants and remove it quick when I can't carry. I tried carrying my Springfield 1911-A1 and it didn't seem to work out too well. I'll stick with my Airweight because it's better than nothing but I DO AGREE a 1911 is the best! Rye
Cowboy Junky
I have a Lightweight Commander in 45....but really won't carry it much. My 5 shotS&W scandium is about as light as the loaded mag of the 45. So it’s muchlighter, easier to operate, won't jam, and will advance to the next live roundin milliseconds if a round is bad. Plus if I can't get the job done with 5 38Special +P - 158 gr. Hard Cast Keith @ 1,250 fps it's not the guns fault......Ineed more training......lol. Rooster Ron Wayne
I seen that before LOL If he thinks 1911s are junk and they dont work every time . Stand in front of it and lets see ! I am on about 4000 rounds in my ruger 1911 with no MF. Lets see about 5000 to 6000 rounds on my RIA NO MF. About 50000 rounds on my Grand Dads Remington Rand with only primers not going off a few times . So I will say ods are in my faver if he would like to stand in front of one of my 1911s When some one with INFLUINCE sayes its true IT MUST BE RIGHT ! http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/influence I mean you can not post it on line if its not TRUE Right ? Virgil Ray Hality, SASS# 37355
I have carried a variety of revolver and pistols... Taurus PT92 AF; Taurus 85; Colt 1911-A1; S&W Airlite 44; Keltec P32 and an H&K USP Compact in 45ACP. I really like my H&K. My current favorite for summeris is a Ruger LC9. However, I did buy a Springfield XD-s compact 45 and all I can say is.... I LIKE IT. I broke it in, I can hit targets really well with it. I put on mag grip extenders and after I replace the front sight with a Trijcon sight it will be my summer carry gun. My winter carry gun remains the H&K USP Compact in 45ACP. This one is the cats meow.

G. I. Tarpicker, SASS #998
My 1911 served me well as a duty/off duty weapon for years. I see no reason to change. I was in a local burger joint the other day and two Texsas Rangers came in as I was leaving. Both carried what appeared to be custom 1911's in VERY nice tooled leather. Need I say more? In hot weather, I carry a Colt Detective Special for concealed carry. GIT
Slowhand Bob, 24229
I just purchased a new version of the Taurus 92 yesterday. This is the fourth one over the years, I have always preferred them to their Beretta counterparts and many opinions to the contrary, they have always functioned for me flawlessly. For many reasons they have never stuck while the old 1911 design has remained my unwavering favorite.as a primary carry gun. Immediately available for my selection are four pistols and each one has a totally unique spot in my varying needs to carry as conditions might require. Then there is the safe, the resting place for toys or perhaps more specialized guns. The Taurus is my new zomby stomper HI-CAP-9 and would definitely be a safe gun in that role, thanks for making me move it to the front of my bucket list earlier than planned, Mr O. I pretty much listed the primary 'four' in earlier posts but something makes me think that many of you do not own just one handgun or even see the logic in doing so, unless other influences dictate such! We already know you gots some cowboy shooters. I have always said BS to the notion that Hickock set up for a shot at 75 yards and then waited with his trusty .36 for things to unfold! Most accurate accounts now tend to indicate the idea that he was actually armed with a Colts .44 Dragoon Model on that morning. A more specialised 'needs' weapon. PS: As a gun style the 1911, from cheap imports to my favored 'Colt' brands, have always been the most dependable out of the box guns I have ever owned and this is in part one of the reasons it tops my list of four. The 1911s that I have encountered over the years that were less than dependable were hack jobs and most often owner hack jobs! Has my experiences just been that lucky or has this dude really been operating in a counter universe??
