Colonel Dan, SASS #24025 Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 I've seen the plan and post for a 10 Million Man March in DC and that would be truly astounding if they could ever pull off something of that magnitude. However...just a few comments….I certainly don’t oppose the idea of large rallies in DC in any way but…I’ve been in that mall area they speak of during political rallies and you can’t get 10 million people in there...not even close. Additionally, most people can’t get there for reasons of distance, available accommodations, time off from the job, family demands and COST. However, for those who can get there, I would encourage them to do so. As for others who want to consider an alternative, I suggest multiple, well organized and well attended rallies at the local and state level all across America…best case would be to coordinate and conduct those rallies on the same day. Such rallies would be easier to attend for the reasons stated above and would show universal commitment across America and do so in large numbers. I’ve attended local rallies and they are indeed effective! Thousands of pro-gun advocates outside the offices of your senators and representatives get noticed…believe me, we’ve done it. In the final analysis; Who must we convince on the federal level? Answer: Those who vote in Washington DC on the federal level. What influences their vote the most? Answer: An insatiable desire to retain the power of office. What are they most afraid of? Answer: Losing that beloved power of office. Who are they most afraid of when the chips are down? Answer: those who vote to elect or deny them that office. Where are those who vote located? Answer: In their home states and local districts. Where can we most effectively and most easily send our message and instill that fear? Answer: In their home states and local districts. Where do we have the greatest chance of getting the required numbers at those rallies to send our message and instill that fear? Answer: In their home states and local districts. Just the view from my saddle…A view I’ll push with national gun organizations and manufacturers when I get the opportunity. Soldier on Team SASS... Quote
Subdeacon Joe Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 If I may, sir. An alternative to your alternative. Posted 07 February 2013 - 07:46 AM Since obviously lots of us can't make it there for various reasons, how about: A challenge for you. During the month of February write a letter to the White House urging that all this stupid waste of time anti-gun, anti-civil rights push be dropped. Get all your gun owning friends to write. Get them to get their friends to write. This month. Imagine the impact if even half of the roughly 80,000,000 gun owners wrote polite, but firm, letters demanding that POTUS and Congress uphold the Bill of Rights. Think we can get that many? That bit in italic is from my Facebook page. Take it, spread it, write the letter and send it off. Quote
Utah Bob #35998 Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Well put Col. Dan. I think it's absolutely essential to keep our representatives aware of our strong opposition, especially at the state level. NY, CA, CT, and CO have already put forth several oppressive gun control bills in their state legislatures. They are trying to strike while emotions are still high and before there is organized resistance from gun owners on a local and state level. I see that as our most immediate threat. Get local and get vocal! Quote
Wolfgang, SASS #53480 Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 All the above is very good. And the NRA is the best voice of all. The NRA is active all the time and represents a lot of gun owners / believers in the 2nd Amendment and the Bill of Rights in general. I upped my membership to LIFE and gave two annual memberships to gun toting friends. The NRA scares the begeesus out of politicians as the NRA represents VOTES that will be cast against them if they support anti-firearm legislation. Quote

And also to participate in discussions online - almost every newspaper has an online version and allows comments after articles and letters to the editor. Get involved on those to counter the lies and distortions that always come out. As an example, the Santa Rosa Press Democrat ran a piece about the manhunt for the former cop that has gone bat-s*** nutso in So. Calif. I left this comment: "The incident led police to believe he was armed with multiple weapons, including an assault-type rifle. That detail concerned officers whose bullet-proof vests can be penetrated by such high-powered weapons, said LAPD Deputy Chief Kirk Albanese." Proving once again that the political LEOs like Chiefs, Deputy Chiefs, and Lord High Sheriffs are more adept at manipulating emotions than with anything to do with firearms. The so called "assault-type rifle" is most likely an AR of some type. Uses a.223 Remington round (5.56 NATO - close enough although there a few minor differences). The round that the gun banners claim is both "High power" - too "high power" for ordinary people to have, but in the other half of the same breath say is too weak to use for hunting anything over the size of a small gopher. It is, in truth, an intermediate round, not high power. Just about ANY rifle round is capable of penetrating the light body armor that police use. So is a knife. So is an arrow. Now, tell us again how special LEOs are, and how detailed the psychological exam they undergo is, and how they, and only they, are capable of using "High powered, underpowered assault weapons with assault magazines and assault bullets." And why, in the face of a loose cannon like this guy we, the great unwashed masses (see Harry Reid on that) have no use (as if "use" is anywhere in the Bill of Rights) for such things. Try to do it without lies and without laughing. Get off your butts and get involved! Quote
Hardpan Curmudgeon SASS #8967 Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 "Regional" rallies is an excellent idea. A bit of an historical note: Back in '94 we had such a rally on the grounds of the State Capitol in Sacramento. I and a couple of buddies reached the location and signed in a bit after 10:00... at that time I was number eight thousand and something, with LOTS of people yet to arrive. The evening news that I saw reported that "a few hundred pro-gun demonstrators" had an event. Very small piece, not well presented, with more attention given to the "cat lady" story. Somehow I think we'd get a bit more attention today. Quote
