Subdeacon Joe Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 No matter what your opinion is concerning California we all need to stand behind the gun owners there. Unfortunately what starts in California spreads like a cancer across the country. We need to join forces and stop this crap at it’s source, wherever that source may be. United we stand divided we will surely fall Thank You!!!! It is good to have some support from out of state. As you all can see, CA along with NY are the front lines of the battle for our civil rights so we have a tough enough time as it is. We don't need smug, self-righteous REMFs giving us a ration of fecal matter to go with it. GOA, NRA, etc. should be flooding CA and NY with money and lawyers to fight this kind of Crazy, Ridiculous, Amoral Posturing. Unfortunately, they seem to have written us off. I'll tell ya, sometimes I feel like a gnat in a urinating contest with an elephant.
L.T. Trish Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Yeah, I don't get the bed thing. I made no such bed. Others made that bed. Not I.
Chickamauga Charlie, SASS #47963 Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 With all due respect, PISS OFF! YA! And when the self same legislation comes to your state, rest assured we in CA will say the exact same thing to you. Actually, that's not true. Most of us will pitch in and send whatever help we can to change the minds of your misguided state lawmakers. That's the difference. We won't just turn our backs on you and leave you with pithy homilies. Think about it. DOUBLE YA!! Funny, I see all these bills that say I will have to turn in my "assault weapons" and hi-cap mags but I never see anything about any recompense for said items. So I am just supposed to give away my 1000.00 rifles? My 500.00 auto pistols? I don't think so. The term "illegal seizure" comes to mind. California sure as hell can't afford to BUY all these guns back from us, we are already bankrupt. And how in the world am I supposed to load these guns with fixed mags anyway? I know, they don't give a crap. And banning Hollowpoints? So now we all have to use full jacketed bullets that if used will go through the bad guy and through a wall or 2 and kill the neighbors? They really are stupid, aren't they. I saw they are talking about tax deductions of up to $1K with proof of value. i'll be taking my guns on a sailing trip in the near future. anyone want to join me?

With all due respect I’m guessing and it’s just my opinion that the NRA does not want to waste scarce funds on a battle that they don’t think they have any chance of winning. Ignorant, smug comments about a state with tens of thousands of gun owners have no place when we're trying to present a united front.

Dogmeat Dad, SASS #48563L Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 Howdy from the front lines in Maryland! We just had the first hearing on the gun bills in Annapolis this past Wednesday and the turnout was so good, the Police had to close the Senate Building because we exceeded the Fire Code Capacity. Depending on which report you read, there were between 1,000 (The media) to as many as 4,000 people in attendance. I overheard one of the lawmakers say we broke the process. Everybody that showed up was well dressed, well spoken, and well behaved. There were so many people that the exit off the main highway into the Capitol was backed up for miles. The NRA-ILA helped the Maryland State Rifle & Pistol Association get the word out and Maryland Shall Issue helped with detailed analysis of the bills. This is the way it works best. Keep the NRA in the background for the local fights and let them help the residents of the state fight their own battle. Otherwise, the Media accuses the NRA of drowning out the voice of the people. Make sure that your State Legislators know it is YOU not some big organization that they can accuse of working soley off of the money of the manufacturers. Support your local State Rifle & Pistol Association. Support the NRA. I know it's a pain, that it may involve travel (and for you pards in CA a LOT of travel!), that it may mean you need time off work, but GET OFF YOUR BUTTS AND PUT YOUR FACE IN FRONT OF YOUR LEGISLATORS. The battle is not lost, we have a long way to go, and at best we end up with a draw (i.e. No New Laws!), but that will be a victory this time around. Dogmeat Dad
Henry T Harrison Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 I doubt that anyone is writing California off as unimportant. The question is can all the money in the world make a difference in California or would it be money wasted. I’m sure that there are people in the NRA making those decisions that are a lot smarter than I am. Please don’t assume that I agree with that strategy

Please don’t assume that I agree with that strategy I think you may have a point when it comes to the NRA support during elections. This state is very blue at this point. But when it comes to challenging legislative bills going against the 2nd amendment in court the California gun organizations and the NRA have made the fight. They have in the past. HS
Springfield Slim SASS #24733 Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 If we could stop it in California I think the other states might just think twice about trying to pass anything. Kinda like taking out the top dog, takes the spunk out of the others. You guys always say once it starts in California it tends to go everywhere. Let's use that to our advantage for a change.

HS Darned few and far between when you look at statewide stuff. I don't think the NRA stepped in at all on Nordyke or Silveira. Johnny-come-lately on the last ammo registration fight, let the CRPA carry the ball most of the way on that one. A couple of others where it didn't step in at all or let others get the ball rolling and do most of the legwork, then sauntered in late. Some work on fighting local stuff like sheriffs not issuing CCWs at all, and the San Francisco handgun ban. Don't get me wrong, the NRA does good work. But we didn't liberate France in 1944 by invading Ireland, if you know what I mean.

No respect is due! Make up your mind please. Do you or don’t you want out of state support. My comment on this thread was to offer support for the shooters in California and in response to something else posted I offered a theory and only a theory as to why the NRA isn’t pouring funds into California. My own belief is that when you have a cancer you cut it out where it started, because unless you do that it will continue to spread. We as gun owners need to deal with this on a grass roots level, write a personal letter to your government officials, make a personal phone call, don’t spout NRA retinoic instead provide concrete and objective facts. Talk not just to your friends but to all your neighbors and co-workers; take them shooting even if it’s just with an air soft gun to start. It’s that soccer mom and little league dad that we need to swing to our side
