Abilene, SASS # 27489
Well, since you asked: The Cattleman from Uberti (Stoeger) and Taylors (and Dixie) should be identical. Comparing either to the Cimarron Model P has the following differences: 1. Model P has the Colt-style hammer. Cattleman has "hammer-block safety" hammer, with a wedge on hammer face below firing pin, a screw on top of hammer, slot on back of hammer, and rod through center of hammer to the safety notch. (note: the higher-end Taylors guns like the Smokewagon and Runnin' Iron have the Colt-style hammer). (the rest are cosmetic) 2. Model P has charcoal blue screws. Cattleman has regular blued screws. 3. Model P has caliber markings as originals. Cattleman varies. 4. Model P has same font as originals on barrel address. Cattleman varies. 5. Model P has darker case colors on frame. (This is within the last few years) 6. Model P has extraneous proof marks (those not required by law to be visible) hidden under ejector housing and triggerguard. Cattleman varies. Internally I would say they are the same. There were previous innovations (coil hand spring, better steel for cylinder and barrel, bevels on cylinder, case colored hammer, Colt-style checkering on hammer spur) that were originally only on Model P's but now are on all Cattlemen as far as I know. Marshal Flagg SASS #39065 Life
A few years ago I had 1 from each CIMARRON EMF UBERTI That is the only difference. Color case was deeper on the Cim, null on the UBERTI All .357 4 3/4 The EMF ended up needing a cylinder $ 100 Other than that the were fine guns until the GWIIs came along
Wild Will Bartell
Sorry I took so long to get back to the post. Thanks for your responses Pards. Abilene, thanks for your detailed anaylisis of the Mod. 'P' vs the other two mfgrs. I think you have steered me towards the Cimmarron. WWB
