Subdeacon Joe
From the Letters to the Editor, Santa Rosa Press Democrat. Climate tax EDITOR: “Warmest year” read one of Sunday's headlines. Another spoke of a platinum coin that could magically pay our debts. They are related. Earth and especially its climate are on loan to humanity. If we break them, no platinum coin, not even all the money in all the world's treasuries, will be enough to replace them. Why not be both smart and brave and enact a revenue-neutral tax on carbon fuels? The carbon tax would rebate all revenue back to families and businesses through cuts in other taxes. It would supercharge our clean-energy economy, empowering us to pay off both the national and ecological debt. If this appeals to you, join the Citizens Climate Lobby, www.citizensclimatelobby.org. BRUCE H. Petaluma Revenue neutral, will pay off our debt, and be totally rebated through reduced taxes. Maybe "snake oil" rather than "fruit loops" would be a better description.
