What to do about School Shootings? By Geoff Sjostrom

Some food for thought. But I have to say, I can not agree to do nothing.

I think that a bit of moral backbone on the part of the media would go

a long way to helping the situation. A ban on printing or publishing the

name of the perp would go a long way in preventing these senseless crimes.

Probably not stop them, but certainly not promote them. Strong consequences

might also be another deterrent.

I have long been of the opinion that anyone that commits a crime with a gun,

whether he used it or not, should be remanded to custody for their life time.

The mere presence of a gun at a crime indicates that the perp does not have

a great deal of regard for another's life. JMO

I understand what you're saying BMC.

I think the point of the article is that as much as we want, and feel like we need to fix the problem that in many ways, we just can't. It also points out that in the grand scheme of things, spree killings at schools, which is what the antis are trumpeting as the need for new laws, is not a huge threat. Drinking and driving, binge drinking, and other issues kill far more each and every year.

Interesting side light here. If the congress were to press forth a bill to ban the publishing of the killer's name in the media, we would hear such an outcry about infringement on the First Amendment that itwould make you deaf, and rightly so. But when it is the second amendment they say nothing.

A thought that is weighing heavy on my mind of late is this...

210 MILLION service men and women have been killed or injured fighting to defend the constitution that the POTUS is now seeking to tear asunder.

OK, that figure includes the civil war, so the exact number might be in question, but suffice it to say that attacking the constitution is peeing on their graves.

None of this would mesh with the majority of the news media's agenda of promoting a socialist society. It has NOTHING to do with "moral backbone" because most of these media people are inherently immoral.

The administration has latched on to the "If it only saves one child's life, it's worth it", argument.

Deceptive and defective, despicable. Playing on the emotions and ignorance of the public.

Bloomberg and the Conn governor are having a "summit" on gun control.

Victims are being paraded before the cameras at an unprecedented rate. Bills are being introduced in dozens of states.

I never thought I'd see it get this bad in my lifetime. I fear for our liberty.

Grizz, yer numbers are a bit skewed.

I transferred your Wikipedia chart onto an Excel spreadsheet and it's grossly out of whack.... the total killed and wounded is more like 2,722,991 - a huge number, but a tiny fraction of what Wiki had for a total. :(

Hardpan, either way the POTUS is spitting on the constitution that men and woman have pledged allegiance to and died protecting.

As to how wiki got so out of whack, well, kinda the nature of the beast I guess.

I would say that we need the politicians and media to stop turning the thugs into some sort of tragic victim/folk hero.
